A community gameplay reference reports that installed technology in your multitool and in the primary inventories of your exosuit and starship is damaged in the process. That same reference does not describe the whole save being deleted. The Atlas Path has a separate finale choice, so check which mission is active before you proceed.
Which ending you are looking at
No Man’s Sky has two story threads that both involve the Atlas, and players often mix them up. The reset discussed here belongs to The Purge, the last mission of the Artemis Path. Hello Games’ 2024 Omega update describes a different finale on the Atlas Path, where you either embrace the Atlas’s offer or deny it. Those are separate endings with separate outcomes.
- Artemis Path, The Purge: the final interface offers “Reset the Simulation,” which moves you to a new galaxy.
- Atlas Path finale: you accept or decline the Atlas’s offer. Hello Games says this choice permanently affects your relationship with the Atlas.
What the reset does
Choosing the reset is a one-way transition to a new galaxy. The steps below follow the sequence reported in the community gameplay reference.
- Reach The Purge and open the final interface.
- Select “Reset the Simulation.”
- Choose one galaxy type from Lush, Harsh, Empty, or Normal.
- You arrive in the new galaxy with your current starship.
Choosing a galaxy type
The galaxy type is the only decision the reset asks of you. The reference lists four options and does not describe differences between them beyond the name of each type, so treat the choice as a matter of personal preference unless you find more detailed guidance from the game itself.

Your ship, multitool, and inventory
The reference reports that installed technology in two places is damaged: the multitool, and the primary inventories of your exosuit and starship. Cargo inventory is described differently and is not damaged in the same way. Because this is a reported gameplay behavior rather than a platform-verified guarantee, expect the effect and confirm it on your own save before relying on any particular item.
What is not established
The available sources do not say that the whole save is erased, and you should not assume you must restart or that all progress is lost. The reset effects are also not confirmed for every current platform and version of the game. Hello Games’ June 2026 patch notes confirm the game is still being updated, but they do not establish reset-specific behavior, so check the reset’s effects on your own version.

If you decline
Refusing the reset is a valid ending. According to the same gameplay reference, you and your ship return to the planet reached through the final interface portal, and the mission ends. Separately, Hello Games’ Omega notes say that players who decline the Atlas at the end of the Atlas Path receive a counterpart title and technology to those awarded for accepting its request. That reward belongs to the Atlas Path and does not come from the reset decision.

Preparing before you choose
Since the reference reports equipment damage, a cautious player may want to plan around it. These are practical suggestions based on that reported damage, not requirements from Hello Games.

- Save your progress in a separate slot if your save system allows it, so you can compare outcomes.

The official sources establish the separate Atlas Path finale and show that the game continues to receive updates, but they do not describe platform-specific reset behavior.
