It does not transfer your Steam purchases or library to Epic. Whether game progress syncs—and which account holds it—depends on the game. Before linking or unlinking, check which Epic account is involved.
What linking Steam does—and doesn’t do
The link associates your Steam account with an Epic Games account. It can let supported games and services recognize the connected accounts, but it does not combine the Steam and Epic storefronts. Epic’s support instructions describe managing an account connection; they do not say that linking transfers Steam purchases or your full Steam library.
Progress is a separate matter: each game determines where it is saved and how it can be accessed across platforms. A link alone is not a guarantee that every game, save, or item will move or sync.
How progress works in supported games
Fortnite and Fall Guys
Epic says Fortnite and Fall Guys progress is saved to the Epic Games account. Linking a platform to a different Epic account does not move progress from the original account. If the game appears to have the wrong progress, confirm that you signed in to the Epic account that owns it before changing any links.

Rocket League
Epic says Rocket League progress is saved to the external platform account the player uses. To access that progress across platforms, link the platform account that holds it to the same Epic account used with the other platforms. Epic’s guidance says to launch Rocket League on each linked platform and reach the main menu so progress and items can sync.
Other games
Do not assume the Fortnite, Fall Guys, or Rocket League rules apply to every game. Check the game’s current Epic support instructions for its account and save behavior. Epic also has a Steam-specific setup article for syncing Fall Guys and Rocket League; follow its current instructions rather than relying on a general linking assumption.

Check the Epic account before linking or changing anything
A Steam account may already be linked to an Epic account, including one with incomplete profile details. If you sign in to a different Epic account, you may not see the progress you expect. Before unlinking or relinking, identify the Epic account currently connected and the account that holds the game progress.
If Steam reports that it is linked to an Epic account you cannot identify or access, Epic directs users to its account recovery process. Start there rather than creating another link in the hope that progress will follow.

How to unlink Steam—and why switching accounts can be difficult
- Sign in to the Epic Games account currently linked to Steam. Verify the email address for that Epic account if prompted.
- Open Epic’s Steam unlink instructions and go to Linked accounts in account settings.
- Select Unlink below Steam, then follow the on-screen prompts. Review the account and progress implications before confirming.
Unlinking does not mean your saved progress transfers to another Epic account. Epic warns that unlinking may trigger a platform-linking restriction that prevents a replacement Steam account from being connected. Epic says the restriction can be removed only once every 365 days; this is a limit on removing that restriction, not a general rule that all account links can be changed only once a year. Check the current account-specific page and any prompt shown during the process before proceeding. See Epic’s guide to changing a linked platform account.

Epic Games’ Privacy Policy says: “When you link your Epic account with your account on a third-party social media (e.g., Facebook), gaming (e.g., Steam), or similar platform, we may receive information from that platform (e.g., your third-party display name, user ID, device information, name, and email address).” The policy also says that privacy settings on third-party platforms typically control what information they disclose to Epic.
