Find the full code, including its suffix, and note what you were doing when it appeared—opening Nintendo eShop, making a purchase, or redeeming a code. The guidance below is based on Nintendo’s Americas support pages; use Nintendo Support for your region if you are elsewhere.
What does error code 2813 mean on Nintendo Switch?
The 2813 prefix alone does not tell you whether the problem is an eShop timeout, a temporary service issue, a purchase or payment problem, or something else. Nintendo’s instructions differ by full code and situation. The support examples here include Switch, Switch Lite, Switch OLED, and Switch 2 where listed by Nintendo; they do not establish that every code applies to every console or region.
Write down all the digits after the hyphen and the action that triggered the message. For example, 2813-0000 has a documented region-mismatch scenario when eShop is opened from a Game News link, while 2813-2491 concerns a purchase transaction timeout.
Try these first
- Record the complete error code. Include every digit after “2813-” and note whether it appeared while opening eShop, paying, or redeeming a card or download code.
- Return to the HOME Menu and retry eShop. This is Nintendo’s suggested first step for several access and temporary-service variants.
- Check Nintendo’s network status and maintenance information. If service maintenance or an outage is listed, wait until it ends before trying again. The status was not checked live for this article, so no current outage is implied.
- Follow the instructions for the exact suffix. Payment, region, and redemption errors have different remedies; do not apply every suggested fix to every 2813 error.
- If the code continues, use its Nintendo support page or contact Nintendo Support. The 2813 prefix by itself is not evidence of a hardware fault.
Common Nintendo 2813 codes and what to do
| Full code | Nintendo’s documented situation | Suggested next step |
|---|---|---|
| 2813-0000 | May occur when opening eShop from a Game News link whose region does not match the country set on the Nintendo Account. | Check the account country and the Game News region. Restart the console, then open eShop directly or from a region-matched source. If it persists, check service status. |
| 2813-9000 | Likely eShop maintenance. | Check network status and try again after the posted maintenance ends. |
| 2813-9712 | eShop inactivity timeout or temporary service outage. | Return to HOME and reopen eShop; check network status if the error persists. |
| 2813-2491 | Purchase transaction timeout, potentially related to network trouble, maintenance, or a temporary outage. | Check service status. If service is available, Nintendo also suggests options including resetting cache, trying manual DNS or another wireless network, or using an eShop card or PayPal rather than a credit card. |
| 2813-9900 | Likely temporary eShop service issue. | Return to HOME and reopen eShop. If the error continues, check maintenance status and retry when service returns. |
| 2813-2440 | eShop purchase error. | Verify payment information, check maintenance, and try another payment method or Nintendo Store. Contact the payment provider if the issue persists. |
| 2813-0973 | May follow multiple consecutive eShop-card redemptions or entering a download code too frequently. | Wait and try again later. |
| 2813-9528 | Temporary eShop service outage while redeeming a download code or eShop card. | Check service status and retry when the issue has ended. |

If the code appears during a purchase
For 2813-2491
Nintendo describes 2813-2491 as a purchase transaction timeout. Start by checking whether eShop service is undergoing maintenance or experiencing an outage. If service is available, Nintendo lists other troubleshooting options, including resetting cache, trying a different wireless network, or manually changing DNS. Manual DNS is optional; Nintendo advises switching back to automatic settings if it does not help.
Nintendo also lists PayPal or an eShop card as alternatives to paying by credit card for this code. A prepaid card is relevant only to a payment-specific problem: it will not resolve an outage, and it is not a general fix for every 2813 error. Check that an eShop card is valid for your Nintendo Account’s region.

For 2813-0973, Nintendo lists repeated eShop-card redemptions or entering a download code too frequently as possible circumstances; wait before trying again. See Nintendo’s redemption-error guidance and 2813-9528 page.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When should you contact Nintendo Support?
Contact Nintendo Support if the same full code keeps appearing after you have followed the steps for that variant, or if the official page gives no remedy for your situation. Include the complete code, what you were doing when it appeared, and whether Nintendo’s service-status page showed maintenance. The cited guidance concerns eShop service, account settings, redemption, and payment; it does not identify a console hardware defect from the 2813 prefix alone.
