The game is Mr.President!, a 2016 slapstick action game in which you play Dick “Rock-Hard” Johnson, a bodyguard who throws himself between the fictional presidential candidate Ronald Rump and staged assassination attempts. Its premise parodies Donald Trump; it does not cast Trump as the game’s candidate. A July 2024 report said the game was trending on Steam after an attempt on Trump’s life, but that trend claim and any player-count increase are not independently verified by the available evidence.
What is the game about?
Mr.President! is a physics-driven action and simulation game from Game Developer X, released on Steam on October 10, 2016. You control bodyguard Dick “Rock-Hard” Johnson and try to intercept danger by leaping, flipping, rolling, and positioning yourself between Ronald Rump and incoming threats. Steam describes more than 50 assassination attempts, locations around the world, and pro-wrestling-style challenges.

Ronald Rump is a fictional Trump parody, not Donald Trump as a playable or directly depicted real-world candidate. At launch, Kotaku reported the developer’s disclaimer: “All characters and events from the game—even the ones inspired by real people—are entirely fictional.” The game’s violence is presented through broad parody and ragdoll comedy.
Did Mr.President! trend on Steam?
TheGamer published a July 15, 2024 headline saying that the game was trending on Steam after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. The available reporting is not sufficient to verify the trend, its duration, its scale, or a specific change in player numbers. Steam player counts and ranking can change quickly, so the headline alone should not be treated as proof of a measurable surge.

What does the gameplay feel like?
The central joke is physical interception: get your bodyguard between Ronald Rump and bullets, bombs, and other staged threats. Steam classifies the game under action, adventure, indie, simulation, physics, comedy, single-player, and difficult. The appeal depends on slapstick movement and unpredictable physics rather than realistic protection tactics.
Critical reaction was mixed. PC Gamer’s James Davenport described the game as shallow and said its levels could quickly become frustrating obstacle courses. In his October 10, 2016 review, he wrote: “The buggy, unpredictable physics becomes a barrier to the joke: the slapstick physical comedy of trying to take a bullet in ridiculous, hyper-satirical environments.” That is Davenport’s assessment, not a guarantee of how every player will experience it.
