There isn’t one universal Pokémon ID number. In a main-series game, look for ID No. on a Pokémon’s summary screen or check your Trainer Card/profile. In Pokémon GO, the code used for friend requests is a separate friend code. Play! Pokémon Player IDs and account logins are different identifiers, too.
Find your Trainer ID in a main-series Pokémon game
If you mean the ID associated with a Pokémon you caught or received, open that Pokémon’s summary and look for the ID No. field. The Trainer ID may also appear on your Trainer Card or equivalent trainer profile. For example, a Pokémon LeafGreen walkthrough identifies the Trainer Card as a place to find the number.
Menu names and paths vary between games, so there is no single button sequence that applies to every main-series title. If you do not see an ID on the Trainer Card, check a Pokémon’s summary. The summary-screen location is described in a reference on Trainer ID numbers.
Find your Pokémon GO friend code
For someone to add you as a friend in Pokémon GO, use your friend code—not a main-series Pokémon’s ID No. Open your Trainer profile, tap Friends, then Add Friend to view the code. Pokémon Support gives these steps in its instructions for adding friends.

Pokémon GO linking
When Pokémon GO is paired with Pokémon: Let’s Go, the linking process uses a Trainer ID shown during pairing. That is a linking-context identifier; do not assume it is the friend code or the ID No. on a Pokémon’s main-series summary. See Pokémon Support’s pairing instructions.
Play! Pokémon Player ID
A Player ID is for organized play. Pokémon Support’s June 2026 enrollment instructions say, “If you received a Player ID, enter it.” The instructions also let users without one select the option indicating they do not have a Player ID.

Pokémon account username or login
Your account credentials are used to sign in to Pokémon services; they are not the Trainer ID on a Pokémon’s summary or your Pokémon GO friend code. Pokémon Trainer Central is an account used for services including Pokémon GO and Pokémon TCG Live. See Pokémon Support’s account information.

Which number should you use?
- Checking a Pokémon you caught: look for ID No. on its summary.
- Sharing a code so someone can add you in Pokémon GO: use the friend code under Trainer profile → Friends → Add Friend.
- Enrolling in organized play: enter a Play! Pokémon Player ID if you received one.
- Signing in: use your Pokémon account login, not an in-game ID or friend code.
