Metaphor: ReFantazio’s New Game+ is a replay mode that starts after you finish the story and load the Clear Data save created after the credits. It preserves many resources and aspects of character development, but resets character levels, bonds, and access to unlocked Archetypes. New Game+ also unlocks Regicide difficulty and an additional Akademia boss encounter, according to gameplay guides.
How to start New Game+
- Complete the main story and let the credits finish.
- Create the post-credits Clear Data save when prompted.
- When you are ready to replay, load that Clear Data save to begin New Game+.
Push Square described this process in a guide published October 11, 2024. ATLUS West also documented an issue in which New Game+ start save data did not generate correctly under certain conditions; the listed fixes were included in console patch 1.04 and PC patch 1.03. See ATLUS West’s patch notes.

What carries over?
Push Square’s guide reports that New Game+ retains the following:
- Money and MAG.
- Progress in all five Kingly Virtues: Courage, Wisdom, Tolerance, Eloquence, and Imagination.
- Items other than key story items, equipment, and unspent Gold Beetles.
- Follower Bond items earned by reaching maximum bond rank.
- Archetype progress, including ranks and unlocked skills, as well as stat bonuses from mastered Archetypes.
- Total playtime.
Gamer Guides additionally reports that scanned enemies, Memorandum progress, and Archetype statues carry over. Those details are guide-reported; the official support and patch pages cited here do not provide a complete New Game+ transfer list. What resets?
Character levels return to level 1. Follower Bond ranks and Follower abilities also reset, and you must regain access to Archetypes as you progress through the new run. Your earlier Archetype ranks and skills remain as progress, but they cannot be used for inheritance until you unlock the relevant Archetype again.
Temporary stat boosts from items or activities—including bathing, washing clothes, and cleaning on the Gauntlet Runner—do not carry over. Gamer Guides also reports that quests and story key items reset.
What is new in New Game+?
Regicide difficulty
Push Square says Regicide, described as the game’s hardest difficulty, becomes available in New Game+. Gamer Guides reports that choosing Regicide cannot be undone by lowering the difficulty later, and that it changes enemy damage, turns, and combat rewards. These are guide-reported mechanics rather than details established in an official mechanics document.

An additional Akademia boss
Push Square describes an extra boss encounter reached through the Book of the Apocalypse in Akademia. It says the fight is unavailable on Storyteller difficulty and recommends attempting it at roughly level 70 or above; that is the guide’s recommendation, not a publisher requirement. Gamer Guides identifies the enemy as the Redscale Apocalypse Dragon and describes it as level 99.
Will New Game+ make the game easier?
New Game+ does not, according to Push Square, automatically raise enemy levels or increase difficulty beyond the setting you choose. However, carrying over endgame weapons, equipment, and Archetype progress can make early encounters much easier. That guide-based description is not a measured balance result for every patch or platform.
If you want a tougher replay, choose a higher difficulty or consider using weaker equipment instead of relying on your carried-over gear. The trade-off is straightforward: retained resources and build progress reward your first run, but they can reduce the pressure of early combat. If you prefer to experience more of the game’s turn-based battles at their original level of challenge, avoid overpowering yourself with endgame equipment.

Is carry-over optional?
The guides reviewed describe New Game+ as beginning by loading Clear Data, but they do not establish whether the game offers a separate toggle to skip carried-over progress. If your priority is a clean progression reset rather than a replay with retained resources, the available information does not confirm an in-game option that provides it.
