Both allow six attempts, but their guesses and rules are different—so choose the site that matches the puzzle you want to play.
Which Numberle do you mean?
The name is ambiguous in the game pages reviewed. Numberle.com describes a daily five-digit number puzzle; Numberle.org describes an equation-guessing game. They are separate games, and the rules, modes and creator attributions should not be mixed up.

How to play the five-digit Numberle
On Numberle.com, enter a valid five-digit number and submit it. You have six rows to work out the hidden answer. The site says you can use its on-screen keypad or a physical keyboard.
Read the number clues
- Green: the digit is in the answer and in the correct position.
- Yellow: the digit appears in the answer but belongs in another position.
- Gray: the digit does not appear in the answer.
Repeated digits are allowed. When a guess contains duplicates, the game’s feedback accounts for how many copies of a digit occur in the answer, so do not assume that one matching copy means every repeated copy is present.

Use clues to narrow the next guess
Numberle.com suggests opening with five different digits to test several possibilities at once; its examples include 01234 and 25806. After the first row, keep track of which positions yellow digits cannot occupy, as well as any green placements and eliminated gray digits. These are the site’s stated tips, not a guaranteed optimal strategy.
Daily puzzle and other modes
Numberle.com advertises a shared daily puzzle, unlimited play, Guess 4 (one set of guesses across four boards), and a puzzle archive. Its FAQ says these modes are free. The page says the daily puzzle changes at midnight in the player’s local time zone and that archive games do not affect the daily streak. These are the site’s own current product claims; interactive play was not independently verified, so check the live page for availability and behavior. The site also says the daily answer is shared by players on the same calendar day.
How to play the equation Numberle
Numberle.org challenges you to identify a hidden equation in six tries. Each guess must itself be a valid equation, and the goal is to find the exact target, including the order of its characters.
Make a legal equation guess
According to the game’s rules page, a guess must:
Rank #3
- Contain exactly one equals sign.
- Use digits 0–9 and the operators
+,-,*or/. - Be mathematically correct, with an integer on the right side of the equals sign.
Equations are not treated as interchangeable when their operands are rearranged. For example, even if two equations express an equivalent calculation, swapping their characters does not make them the same target.
Interpret the equation clues
The rules page describes gray as a character absent from the target, brown or yellow as a character that appears in a different position, and green as a character in the correct position. Use the feedback to track both which digits and operators are possible and where they can fit.
Rank #4
The site’s February 25, 2022 launch announcement described unlimited play, difficulty selection and custom puzzles at launch. Those are historical feature claims; the current rules page does not confirm that every one remains available. Check the live interface before relying on them.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is either one the original Numberle?
The two sites make different identity claims. Numberle.com calls itself the official home of the original five-digit Numberle, says indie developer DDuarte created it in January 2022, and says Hey, Good Game now cares for the game. It also describes other Numberle sites as unaffiliated clones. These are Numberle.com’s claims about its identity and affiliation.
Best Value
Separately, Numberle.org’s launch announcement names Sarah Simson as creator of its equation game. That attribution belongs to the equation game, not to Numberle.com’s five-digit puzzle.
