The “Roblox Getting Big New Upgrade Next Month” headline referred to Party, Roblox’s group-play feature—not an October 2026 release. Roblox announced Party in September 2024 and began its global rollout on desktop and mobile on December 2, 2024.
What is Roblox Party?
Party lets friends group up, find experiences, join the same game, and move between experiences together. Roblox described groups of up to six friends when it announced the global rollout. Party is a software feature; Roblox’s announcements do not identify dedicated hardware or an accessory as a requirement.
At the rollout, Roblox Vice President of Product Garima Sinha said, “Communication is core to that vision, which is why we’re excited to share a new way to connect and coordinate with friends — all on Roblox.”
When did Party launch?
Roblox introduced Party at its September 6, 2024 Developers Conference. At that point, the company expected text and voice to be available by the end of 2024 and a developer API in early 2025. Those were plans announced at the time, not the current launch status.

On December 2, 2024, Roblox announced Party’s global rollout on desktop, iOS, and Android. The launch announcement said users aged 13 or older could use Party text chat, with voice planned for the following months. Roblox Support now lists desktop, mobile, and console; device and communication access can vary by account and region.
Who can use Party chat and voice?
Access depends on age, trusted-friend settings, region, and the communication feature in question. Roblox’s September 2024 announcement described text for friends aged 9 or older and voice for phone-verified users aged 13 or older. The December rollout announcement then described text chat for users aged 13 or older at launch. These dated announcements should not be treated as universal current eligibility rules.

Does playing with friends make sessions longer?
Roblox reported that sessions with friends were 1.9 times longer than solo sessions, based on its own data as of June 30, 2024. That is an engagement comparison; it does not show that Party itself caused longer sessions.

What else did Roblox announce at RDC 2024?
Roblox also announced creator monetization initiatives at the 2024 conference, including Creator Affiliate. That is a separate creator-facing program, not part of Party or a requirement to use it; the announcement alone does not establish its current availability or terms.
