RS25 is Jagex’s year-long programme for RuneScape’s 25th anniversary in 2026—not one expansion or a single new game. Announced on January 15, it brings together investment in the games, integrity and player-experience work, new content, technology, community events and future talent. Jagex called it “the most ambitious evolution in RuneScape history”; that is the company’s description of its plans, not an independently measured ranking.
What RS25 means
Jagex framed RS25 as a broad programme for the RuneScape franchise’s anniversary year. Its stated themes were “more integrity, more value, and more RuneScape,” backed by what the company called its largest annual investment in the games to that date. The announcement covered support systems, modernized infrastructure, refreshed systems and content, and live events in the US and UK. Jagex’s January 15 announcement presents the phrase “most ambitious evolution” as its ambition for the programme, not proof that every planned change has shipped or that it has been independently judged the largest evolution.
In the same announcement, CEO Jon Bellamy said: “RS25 is more than a celebration of where we’ve come from, it’s a statement of where we’re going. We’re investing in our games, the player experience, our technology, and our teams to ensure RuneScape and its worlds continue to inspire and connect millions for decades to come.”
What Jagex planned for RuneScape in 2026
Jagex published a game-specific roadmap on January 19. It outlined integrity work, system modernization and new content, but an announcement is a plan, not confirmation of delivery. The roadmap announcement grouped the work across several parts of the game:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →#1 Best Overall
- Integrity and core systems: a “Road to Restoration” roadmap, modernization of core systems, UI and visual-integrity improvements, combat modernization, plugin API support, rebalancing, and improvements to the Grand Exchange.
- Daily play: planned changes to daily activities and Auras as part of the broader system work.
- Player characters and housing: a player-avatar refresh and more control over player-owned houses.
- New areas and modes: Havenhythe, described by Jagex as the largest area expansion in the game’s 25-year history, and Leagues II.
These items explain what the RuneScape strand of RS25 was intended to include. The January roadmap alone does not establish which features arrived, their final form, or whether timing changed later in 2026.
How RS25 reaches beyond the main game
Jagex’s anniversary announcement also linked the programme to community activity and the wider franchise. It announced RuneFest 2026 for October 3–4 at Birmingham’s NEC, with planned capacity for 6,000 fans. In its October 5 update, Jagex reported that more than 6,000 people attended; that later reported attendance is distinct from the January capacity plan. The company’s RuneFest announcement roundup also covered plans across Old School RuneScape, Dragonwilds and other franchise projects.
RS25: Future Talent Pathway, announced with UK charity Into Games, was another strand. Jagex described it as supporting mentorship, talent incubation and community education. The programme is therefore about more than in-game updates: Jagex also presented it as investment in people and the community around the games.
Jagex’s January release said RuneScape had welcomed over 300 million player accounts and generated more than $3 billion in lifetime revenue. These are company-reported cumulative figures from that release; account totals do not mean unique people or active users.

Is Jagex making a new RuneScape MMO?
Yes. On October 5, 2026, Jagex announced a fourth RuneScape MMO at RuneFest. The game is unnamed, was described as early in development, and is being built in Unreal Engine. Jagex said it aims to bring Gielinor to life with current technology and design possibilities while drawing on the franchise’s depth, freedom and community-led spirit. The announcement gave no release date or game name.
This is a later franchise development announced during the anniversary year, not the definition of RS25 or the only project within it. The October roundup also covered RuneScape Reignited, Old School RuneScape plans, Dragonwilds and an animated adaptation partnership.

Anniversary merchandise
Jagex’s official 25th-anniversary page lists a RuneScape: 25 Years Vinyl Box Set, described as five deluxe LPs with boss artwork, and an Anniversary Desk Mat. The page links the vinyl to Laced Records and the mat to Jagex’s official merch store. Their listing establishes that the products were announced, not current stock, pricing or retailer availability.
Jagex’s October 5 roundup additionally says Scape Ink and Jagex launched a RuneScape streetwear range globally at RuneFest, exclusive to the RuneScape merch store. It names a Slayer Hoodie, Wise Old Man Tee, Ancient Magicks Tee and Bandos Godsword Tee; availability can change, so check the store for current listings.
