SILK is an earnable in-game currency used to unlock and claim rewards in Marathon’s Rewards Pass. You earn it as your Runner levels up, then spend it on reward nodes—including cosmetics—within the pass.
How SILK works in Marathon
Bungie’s In-Game Currency & Reward Pass Guide describes SILK as currency for Rewards Pass progression. It is a virtual game currency, not a physical crafting material.
The guide says each Runner level awards 10 SILK. Runner levels advance through XP earned from gameplay activities and completing Contracts during runs. The guide does not display a publication or revision date; the 10-SILK figure was verified in 2026.
What you can spend SILK on
SILK unlocks individual Rewards Pass rewards, including cosmetics. On a pass page, reward nodes can be purchased in any order. To open the next page, however, you must spend enough SILK on the current page.

Bungie’s June 2, 2026 Update 1.1.0 clarifies that Premium Rewards Pass owners can claim individual rewards with SILK or purchase those individual rewards with LUX once the relevant page is unlocked. That is a choice of currency for individual rewards—not confirmation that SILK buys Premium Pass access.

SILK’s balance cap and Rewards Pass expiry
Bungie’s current reviewed guide lists a maximum balance of 140 SILK. It advises spending some before a run if you are at the cap, since additional earnings while capped may be wasted. The guide does not display a date for this cap, so treat 140 as the value shown on that guide when reviewed, rather than as a dated patch-note figure.
The same guide says Rewards Passes do not expire at the end of a season and that past or future passes can be purchased at any time. Because Marathon’s live-game economy and in-game details can change, check the current Rewards Pass screen or Bungie Help guidance for up-to-date terms.
What SILK does not buy
SILK is described as a Rewards Pass currency; the cited Bungie guidance does not say it can be exchanged for physical merchandise. Bungie Rewards items are a separate program tied to specified in-game challenges and eligibility dates, as explained in Bungie’s June 23, 2026 announcement. Those items are not described as SILK purchases.
