Battlefield 4 is rated Mature 17+ in the United States and PEGI 18 on the cited United Kingdom Xbox listing. EA’s separate minimum age of 13 applies to access to online features; it is not the game’s content rating.
Battlefield 4 age ratings in the US and UK
| Country and listing | Age rating | Content descriptors | Interactive-feature notices |
|---|---|---|---|

EA says ratings can vary by country, so check your local platform store or the game’s packaging. EA’s Battlefield 4 page and the US Xbox listing provide the US examples; the UK Xbox listing shows PEGI 18.

What does Mature 17+ mean?
The ESRB describes its Mature category as “generally suitable for ages 17 and up.” It may include intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content, or strong language. ESRB’s ratings guide explains the category and its content descriptors. For Battlefield 4, the US listing names Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, and Strong Language.
Does EA say 13-year-olds can play online?
EA’s Battlefield 4 page says users must be 13 or older to access online features. That is a condition for online-feature access, not permission that changes the game’s age rating: the US Xbox listing still rates the game Mature 17+. For a 13-year-old, distinguish the minimum online-access age from the higher content guidance and consider the rating and descriptors when deciding whether the game is appropriate.

What do the online and purchase notices mean?
The US Xbox listing also displays “Users Interact” and “In-Game Purchases (Includes Random Items).” ESRB says interactive elements are notices about features such as online interaction and purchasing; they do not determine the rating category. They provide additional information about the experience, separate from the Mature 17+ content rating. ESRB’s explanation of interactive elements covers these notices.
