What Is the Best Reforge for Accessories in Terraria?

Warding is a strong choice for survivability; Menacing and Lucky suit damage-focused builds. The best Terraria accessory reforge depends on your build and the fight.

There is no single best accessory reforge for every Terraria build. Choose Warding if staying alive matters most; choose Menacing or Lucky when you want more damage. The right offensive option depends on your build and the enemies you face.

What do the main accessory reforges do?

The Terraria Official Wiki identifies Warding, Menacing, and Lucky as the accessory modifiers that are most consistently useful. Each improves a different stat:

Reforge Bonus per accessory Best suited to
Warding +4 defense Players prioritizing survivability, including many pre-Hardmode situations and high-defense builds.
Menacing +4% damage Players prioritizing damage, especially when summons make up a large share of their damage.
Lucky +4% critical strike chance Players seeking more critical hits as part of an offensive build.

These are per-accessory bonuses, so applying the same modifier to several accessories increases its contribution. The wiki characterizes Quick as generally too weak to be an attractive use of accessory modifiers.

When should you choose Warding?

Choose Warding when incoming hits are a bigger threat than a slower kill. Its defense bonus can be especially useful in many pre-Hardmode situations and in high-defense builds. It is a sensible default if extra survivability helps you avoid deaths or survive an encounter long enough to finish it.

Menacing or Lucky: which is better for damage?

Neither is universally better. Menacing increases damage directly; Lucky increases critical strike chance. Your existing damage and critical-strike bonuses, weapons, class, and the enemy’s defense all affect which offensive mix serves your build better.

Why Menacing may suit summon-heavy builds

Summon damage cannot critically strike, so Lucky does not improve that portion of your damage through critical hits. When summons account for much of your output, Menacing can therefore be the more useful offensive choice.

Why mixing modifiers can work

Menacing and Lucky bonuses add across accessories, and their effects multiply with each other. The Terraria Official Wiki gives a worked example in which three Menacing and two Lucky modifiers produce a theoretical 25.44% DPS increase before accounting for enemy defense. This is an in-game calculation, not a guarantee of the same result in every fight. Enemy defense changes the comparison because damage bonuses can be more valuable when they reduce the share of damage lost to defense.

How to decide for your build

  • Use Warding if survival is the problem, particularly in pre-Hardmode or a high-defense build.
  • Use Menacing or Lucky if the risk of dying is low and more damage is the priority.
  • Favor Menacing when a substantial share of your damage comes from summons.
  • Compare your existing damage and critical-strike bonuses, weapon setup, and enemy defense before committing to an all-offensive setup.

These are decision rules, not universal laws: armor, accessories, weapons, encounter, and your tolerance for risk can change the best choice.

How do you change an accessory reforge?

Accessory modifiers can be changed by reforging at the Goblin Tinkerer. Reforging is the way to adjust the modifier when your priorities or build change.
