There is no source-backed, universal “best” squad size for Battlefield 6. EA documents squads of four in two REDSEC modes, while the official Battlefield 6 pages do not establish a squad capacity for every mode. The answer to the older forum question about Battlefield 2042 is similarly unsettled: Tom Henderson said he was unsure whether larger squads would have helped.

The thread “BF 6 – squad sizes” began on November 20, 2024. Screema asked what squad size would suit a next-generation Battlefield and whether Battlefield 2042’s 128-player mode would have benefited from larger squads.

Tom Henderson, an administrator on the forum, replied: “It’s currently 4 man squads and 4 classes — Not sure on if 2042 would have benefited from larger squads or not, it was just a meh game for me.” That is a dated forum comment, not an official design specification or a settled explanation of Battlefield 2042’s design.
What squad sizes does Battlefield 6 document?
EA identifies Assault, Support, Engineer, and Recon as Battlefield 6’s four core classes, and describes squad-based play as one of the game’s design pillars. Its specific squad-size details apply to REDSEC formats:

EA’s REDSEC description states those formats. They should not be treated as proof that every Battlefield 6 mode has the same squad capacity. The official modes page mentions Squad Deathmatch but does not state each squad’s player capacity.
Would larger squads have improved Battlefield 2042?
The forum exchange does not establish that they would. Henderson explicitly said he was unsure, and the thread offers no measured comparison of squad sizes or evidence that changing squad capacity would have fixed the 128-player mode. A larger squad could let more friends stay together, but it could also concentrate communications, revives, and coordinated pressure in one unit. Those are design considerations, not demonstrated outcomes in the sources available here.

How to judge four, five, or six players per squad
No published study or quantitative comparison in the cited material identifies an objectively optimal Battlefield squad size. The useful question is what a mode is trying to optimize:
- Friend-group inclusion: Larger squads can reduce how often a group exceeding the default capacity has to split or leave someone out.
- Coordination: More players in one unit may make communication and coordinated pressure more potent, depending on how the game handles those systems.
- Reinforcement: Additional squadmates may create more chances to revive or return to a fight, but no measured effect is established here.
- Match structure: Squad capacity needs to fit team size and party assignment rather than being evaluated in isolation.
- Mode identity: A compact mode, a large-scale match, and a Battle Royale may call for different rules. REDSEC’s four-player squads do not settle what is best elsewhere.
Battlefield 6 context
EA announced Battlefield 6 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with launch on October 10, 2025. Its four-class lineup and emphasis on squad play provide current context for the forum question, but they do not prove that one squad size is best across the game.
