There is no one best team for Swampert without knowing the game, generation and battle format. For ordinary Swampert, plan around its fourfold weakness to Grass attacks and decide what job it should do. In a Scarlet/Violet singles context, it can threaten Electric-types and pivot with Flip Turn. Mega Swampert calls for a different, generation-specific plan: a Generation VII guide recommends dedicated rain support, with Pelipper as a key partner.
Why there is no universal Swampert team
Swampert’s teammates depend on which version of the Pokémon you can use, the format you are building for and the role you want it to fill. A team built around Mega Swampert in a format that allows it is not interchangeable with an ordinary Swampert team, and historical recommendations do not establish a legal roster for Scarlet/Violet.

Choose teammates by checking four things: whether they are legal in your game and format, whether they help cover Grass attacks, whether they support Swampert’s intended role, and whether the team can function beyond its central pairing.
Ordinary Swampert in Scarlet/Violet singles
The Scarlet/Violet singles reference describes Swampert as able to threaten Electric-types and use Flip Turn to pivot. Its fourfold Grass weakness is a major team-building constraint: account for Grass attacks when choosing the rest of the team rather than assuming Swampert can handle them alone. Smogon’s Scarlet/Violet Swampert reference supports these role and matchup points, but does not establish a complete six-Pokémon roster or a verified moveset here.
#1 Best Overall
- Shape the world and build a cozy new life with Pokémon as a Ditto transformed to look like a human.
- Use other Pokémon’s moves, like Bulbasaur’s Leafage, to revitalize and navigate the world around you.
- Meet and befriend more Pokémon as you help nature flourish.
- Gather materials to create items and furniture, till the fields to grow delicious crops, build homes for the Pokémon you meet, and more—there’s so much to do!
- Experience a world with varied weather, real-time days and nights, and other surprises.
Mega Swampert: build for rain in Generation VII
For formats where Mega Swampert is available, the Generation VII guide recommends using it on a dedicated rain team and names Pelipper as a key partner for rain support. It also discusses complementary rain attackers and Steel-type teammates. These are historical Sun/Moon recommendations, not a current Scarlet/Violet team prescription; check legality in the specific game and format before using them. See Smogon’s Sun/Moon Swampert guide.
Older balanced-team ideas are generation-specific
A Diamond/Pearl guide suggests Grass-resistant partners such as Latias and Heatran and describes a Fire/Water/Grass core. Treat these as examples of historical team-building logic, not as a roster to transfer unchanged into a newer game. The recommendations are in Smogon’s Diamond/Pearl Swampert guide.

What to clarify before choosing six Pokémon
- Game and generation: These determine which Swampert forms and teammates are available.
- Format: Singles and doubles ask different things of a team; the Scarlet/Violet reference cited here is for singles.
- Swampert’s role: A pivot that uses Flip Turn needs a different supporting plan from a Mega Swampert built around rain.
- Team coverage: Make a deliberate plan for Grass attacks, then check that the team has useful options beyond supporting Swampert.
What the Pokédex tells you—and what it doesn’t
The Pokémon Company lists Swampert’s height as 1.5 m and says its Torrent ability strengthens Water moves when its HP is low. These are species details, not evidence that a particular teammate or team is competitively effective. The official Swampert Pokédex entry provides the description.
