There is no single best weapon for Elden Ring’s end bosses. The right choice depends on your character’s main stats, how the weapon scales, its affinity, its upgrade level, and the weaknesses and attack patterns of the boss you are fighting. The clearest worked example in current independent guidance is Promised Consort Radahn, a late-game expansion boss. The Elden Ring Wiki’s guide for that fight recommends a Blood or Cold affinity weapon, aims for bleed or frostbite procs, and stresses stance-breaking. Treat that as one guide’s advice for one encounter, not as an official ranking.
Define which bosses this covers
“End bosses” is not a fixed category in Elden Ring. It can mean the final encounters of the base game, optional late-game bosses, the bosses of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, or all of these. The advice below applies most directly to the difficult late-game fights that readers usually mean when they ask this question. Radahn is used as a single case study. It should not be read as a description of every late-game boss.
The question also tends to come from players who want a weapon that makes hard fights more manageable without requiring a perfect build. That goal is the right frame: the aim is a weapon that fits your character and your fighting style, not one that wins on paper.
Why no single weapon wins everywhere
Three variables decide how much damage a weapon does and how safely you can use it:

- Scaling describes how strongly a weapon’s damage increases as a given stat rises. A weapon with strong Strength scaling rewards a Strength build, even if it looks powerful on the stat screen.
- Affinity changes which stats a weapon scales with and which damage or status effect it applies. The same base weapon can behave very differently under a different affinity.
- Boss matchup covers the boss’s damage types, status vulnerabilities, stance-break potential, and attack openings. A weapon that is strong against one boss can be weak against another.
Because these variables interact, no sources reviewed here provide a controlled comparison of weapons across all bosses, builds, and upgrade levels. A universal damage ranking would therefore be unsupported. Use the guidance below as a method for choosing, and check it against your own character.
Worked example: Promised Consort Radahn
The Elden Ring Wiki’s guide, last updated 11 September 2026, is the most specific current example. It is a fan-run independent guide, not an official source.
Affinity: Blood or Cold
The guide recommends a weapon with Blood or Cold affinity. It states: “A Blood or Cold affinity weapon is strongly recommended over pure physical.” The reasoning is that bleed and frostbite can proc during the fight, adding damage over time and status pressure that a plain physical weapon does not provide against this boss.

Shield use: helpful in phase one, weaker in phase two
A greatshield can make Radahn’s first phase easier. The guide cautions, however, that blocking during phase two is ineffective against much of the boss’s elemental component. Plan to switch from shield-based defense to dodging or other tactics when phase two begins.

The guide also recommends focusing on stance-breaking. Breaking the boss’s stance opens a window for heavier punishes, so a weapon whose attacks build stance damage quickly is worth prioritizing alongside its status effect.
Recommended level and Scadutree Blessing
The guide suggests a Scadutree Blessing level of 18 to 20 and a character level of 150 or higher. These are the guide’s recommendations, not official requirements. Treat them as a benchmark for a comfortable attempt, not a gate.

Upgrade level matters
Upgrade level changes how much a weapon’s scaling contributes. The Elden Ring Wiki’s weapon scaling guide lists two caps that matter for choosing a weapon:

The guide’s equivalence is a rough comparison from that guide, not an official rule. Choose a somber weapon only if you can reach its upgrade cap and its boss-specific advantage matters to your plan.

Version 1.17 (27 August 2026)
The version 1.17 notes adjust several weapons, including Rellana’s Twin Blades, Smithscript weapons, the Carian Sorcery Sword, the Golem Fist, several Perfume Bottles, and Rakshasa’s Great Katana. The notes state that the Carian Sorcery Sword’s Intelligence scaling was changed so it increases the attack power of all damage types. The notes also state: “Please apply the latest update before playing.”
Version 1.14 (11 September 2024)
The version 1.14 notes changed the Shadow of the Erdtree final boss. The changes include a revised opening action pattern and some attacks, reduced damage, stamina damage, and range for some non-weapon attacks, and improved visibility for some effects. If you are following guidance written before these changes, verify the boss-specific advice against the current patch.
How to choose a weapon for your next end boss
- Confirm the current game version in your client, and check the boss advice is from the same patch.
- Identify your character’s main damage stats and the weapon’s scaling for those stats.
- Check the weapon’s affinity and whether its status effect matches the boss’s vulnerabilities.
- Test the weapon’s moveset, reach, and speed against the boss’s attack patterns. A weapon you cannot use safely will underperform any statistical advantage.
- Decide whether you will use a shield, rely on stance-breaking, or plan around a summon, and choose the weapon that supports that plan.
- Upgrade to the level your materials allow. Compare standard and somber endpoints only if you can reach the relevant cap.
What this guidance does not establish
The sources do not establish a universal best weapon, a measured damage ranking across bosses, or a recommendation that applies to every build. The Radahn tactics come from a specialist community guide, not from firsthand testing for this article. For any other boss, use the method above and confirm the advice against the current patch notes.
