There is no officially designated easiest class in Final Fantasy XIV. If you want a straightforward place to start and prefer attacking from a distance, Archer is a reasonable choice: it progresses to Bard, a physical ranged DPS job. That is a play-style fit, not a proven difficulty ranking.
Is any FFXIV class officially the easiest?
No. The Square Enix sources reviewed do not rank classes by beginner difficulty or identify a universal easiest option. They describe roles and class-to-job paths, but do not compare leveling experiences, rotations, action counts, or how new players perform. The useful question is which starting play style sounds appealing to you.
Which beginner path should you choose?
Archer to Bard: physical ranged damage
Archer is the starting class for Bard, a physical ranged DPS job. The FINAL FANTASY XIV Job Guide (Battle) describes physical ranged DPS as attacking from a distance, dealing sustained damage, and supporting companions. Consider Archer if you like staying at range and contributing damage while helping your party. Those role characteristics make it a reasonable fit for that preference, not proof that Archer or Bard is easier than other choices.
Arcanist to Summoner: magical ranged damage
Arcanist is the starting class for Summoner, a magical ranged DPS job. The same official role overview says magical ranged DPS use arcane arts at range and have movement restricted by casting times. That is a practical difference to consider if you are choosing between physical attacks and spellcasting; it does not establish that Summoner is harder overall.

Does your starting class lock you into one choice?
Your character’s class is determined by the weapon or tool they have equipped, and your starting class determines your initial role and starting city. Mastering a class opens a path to one or more related jobs and their actions. The official sources establish that class-to-job progression, but do not spell out every practical detail of changing classes, so they are not enough to make broader promises about when or how you can switch.
How to make the choice
- Choose Archer if physical ranged attacks and the Bard path sound more appealing.
- Choose Arcanist if you want a magical ranged path and are comfortable accounting for casting times when moving.
- Do not treat either recommendation as an official easiest-class verdict; the available official descriptions explain roles, not comparative beginner difficulty.
