There is no single fastest way to train in Old School RuneScape (OSRS). The quickest route depends on the skill you are training, the unlocks your account already has, how much gold you will spend, and whether you want a method that needs constant clicks or one that runs with less attention. The best Cooking method is not the best Slayer method, and in the early game a quest reward can out-pace a grinding method by a wide margin.
Why there is no universal fastest method
Training speed in OSRS is set by the actions a skill uses. Each skill has its own set of activities, and each activity gives a different amount of experience per action and per hour. The experience-rate overview on Fandom explains this and notes that whether a method feels easy is subjective, so a method that looks fast on paper may still be tedious for a given player.
That is why a sensible answer starts with the skill, not with a ranking of methods across the whole game.
How speed varies between skills
The experience-rate overview names specific skills as faster or slower in general terms. It does not give a current hourly figure for each one, so the table below records only what the overview states.

For any of these skills, the rate you actually get depends on your level, the activity you choose, and the boosts you have available. Check the current guide for your skill before committing to a route.
Early combat: Waterfall Quest
Waterfall Quest is one of the clearest examples of a quest reward speeding up early training. It has no requirements, and the melee training guide on the OSRS Wiki says it can take Attack and Strength from level 1 to level 30.

The same guide warns that the quest includes monsters that can hit hard for low-level characters. Before starting, make sure you have enough food and combat gear to survive those fights, and treat the warning as a readiness check rather than a footnote.

- Experience per hour at your actual level and unlocks. A rate quoted for a higher-level account may not apply to yours.
- Gold cost or potential profit. A fast method that consumes expensive supplies can cost more than a slower method that pays for itself.
- Account requirements. Check quests, membership status, gear, and other unlocks before you plan around a method.
- Attention and click intensity. Some methods reward constant input; others run passively and suit long sessions or multitasking.
- Whether it advances another goal. Combat training that also progresses your fighting level can be worth more than a marginally faster skill-only method.
Experience boosts from gear
The OSRS Wiki reports that a complete set of experience-boosting skilling outfit gives a 2.5% experience boost for applicable skills. The reference the wiki page gives does not state the year the figure was recorded, so treat it as the value listed on the wiki at the time of checking rather than a permanent constant.
The boost does not apply everywhere. Exceptions include quest experience and the experience from finishing a Wintertodt round. A 2.5% bonus is useful but modest, so it should not outweigh choosing a faster activity.

How to find the current fastest method for your skill
- Choose the skill and the target level you want to reach.
- Open the current guide for that skill on the OSRS Wiki. The wiki describes itself as the official OSRS encyclopaedia and says it is written and maintained by players, so check the page’s update history for recent changes.
- Confirm the unlocks, quests, and membership requirements the method needs on your account.
- Compare the experience rate at your level against the cost in gold and your available attention.
- Recheck the guide after major game updates, because method rates can change when the game changes.
