The Ice Worm is the largest creature in Subnautica: Below Zero with a stated length in the sources compared here: the game’s Databank describes it as roughly 95 metres long. That is longer than the Chelicerate’s separately reported 65 metres and the Shadow Leviathan’s Databank description of 60 metres or more. The figures are not presented in one official size ranking, so this is the best-supported comparison—not a definitive ranking of every creature by measured length.
How the largest-creature comparison stacks up
The Ice Worm’s roughly 95-metre length comes from the Below Zero Databank entry transcribed on the Subnautica Wiki’s Databank page. The Shadow Leviathan’s entry on that same page says “60m+,” while a separate Chelicerate reference gives that creature a length of 65 metres.
| Creature | Stated size | Source and context |
|---|---|---|
| Ice Worm | Roughly 95 m | Below Zero Databank entry, transcribed on the Subnautica Wiki. |
| Chelicerate | 65 m | Separate Subnautica Wiki creature reference; not the same Databank wording. |
| Shadow Leviathan | 60 m+ | Below Zero Databank entry, transcribed on the Subnautica Wiki. |
| Frozen Leviathan | No length stated | Its consulted Databank entry describes a specimen frozen in a glacier but gives no measurement. |
Because these figures come from different reference entries and use different wording, they should not be treated as a single, standardized measurement set. The Ice Worm nevertheless has the greatest stated length among these comparisons.
Why the Ice Worm’s size is easy to miss
The Ice Worm is not an aquatic leviathan: the Databank describes it as a burrowing predator that moves through dense ice shelves. It reacts to sound traveling through the ice and can be temporarily distracted by sonic devices. Its habitat and ambush behavior make encounters unlike those with underwater predators, but they do not change the stated length comparison.

Does the Frozen Leviathan count?
The Frozen Leviathan is a major creature in the game’s story, but the consulted Databank entry does not give it a length. It says the creature was found buried in a glacier and describes it as having walked around roughly a thousand years earlier. Without a stated measurement, it cannot be fairly ranked against the Ice Worm, Chelicerate, or Shadow Leviathan by length.
That distinction matters: a creature’s narrative importance, apparent scale, or danger does not establish that it is the largest by measured body length. The available entries support the Ice Worm as the largest creature with a stated size in this comparison, not a confirmed measurement-based ranking of every creature in the game.
