The maximum depends on which Tomodachi Life you are playing. In Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream for Nintendo Switch, you can register up to 70 Miis, according to Nintendo Support’s FAQ. In the original Tomodachi Life for Nintendo 3DS, the official manual allows up to 100 Mii characters living on your island. These are two separate releases with two separate limits, so quote the version alongside the number.
Living the Dream on Nintendo Switch: 70 Miis
Nintendo Support’s answer to “How many Miis can I register?” states: “A player can register up to 70 Miis.” The residents in Living the Dream are created from Mii faces registered on a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 console, and Nintendo’s FAQ lists the game as supported on those systems. Nintendo’s product page lists the game for Nintendo Switch with a release date of April 16, 2026.

The original Tomodachi Life on Nintendo 3DS: 100 Mii characters
The 3DS original uses a different cap. Nintendo of Europe’s manual for that release says: “You can have up to 100 Mii characters living on your island.” That is an island-wide limit on the characters living there, and it applies only to the 3DS game.

Why the two numbers should not be merged
- The 70 figure counts registered Miis for the Switch release. It is not a revised version of the 3DS cap.
- The 100 figure counts Mii characters living on one island in the 3DS release. It does not describe the Switch game.
- Nintendo’s published material for these releases does not describe household limits or per-couple limits. Do not assume either exists based on the island-wide numbers above.
How to phrase the answer
If you are asked about the current game, answer 70 Miis for Living the Dream on Switch. If the question concerns the original Nintendo 3DS game, answer 100 Mii characters on the island. When the version is unclear, give both figures and name the platform for each.
