A Steam Wishlist is a free save-for-later list for games you might buy. It keeps titles easy to find, can notify you about some sales, and gives you a way to share gift ideas. It does not buy games for you, and sale alerts depend on Steam’s notification options.
What a Steam Wishlist is useful for
Keep track of games you are considering
Add a game to your Wishlist to find it again without searching the Store. You can revisit titles while you decide whether or when to buy them, then reorder or remove entries as your plans change. Steam Support describes how to use and manage the list in its Wishlist FAQ.
Watch for some sales
Steam Support says the Wishlist can notify you when a game you want goes on sale. Steam also offers email or mobile notifications for certain promotions involving wishlisted games, and lets you opt out. These alerts do not guarantee a message for every discount or promotion; check your current notification preferences in Steam. See Steam’s email and notification preferences for the available options.
Keep upcoming games in view
A Wishlist can help you keep an unreleased game on your radar while you wait. Valve has described additional Wishlist features such as demo indicators and demo-release alerts, but the feature update does not establish that every alert or setting is available for every title or account today. Check the current game page and your Steam settings rather than assuming a particular alert will arrive.

Share gift ideas
A shared Wishlist can show friends and family what games you might like. Valve has also described links for sharing a full Wishlist or a filtered category, with the ability to revoke links. That can make the list useful for gift planning without requiring someone to guess what you want.
How to add and manage games

Open the game’s Steam Store page and select Add to your Wishlist.

Open Wishlist from the Store menu in the Steam client or in a browser to see your saved games.

Reorder entries by dragging them or assigning a position. Remove a game from the Wishlist itself or from its Store page.

If you want sale alerts, review your email and mobile notification preferences in Steam and choose the options that suit you.

To share gift ideas, use the Wishlist’s sharing option. Revoke a share link if you no longer want it to work.

Who can see your Wishlist?
Steam Support says Wishlist visibility follows your Community Profile privacy settings. You can set the profile to be visible to everyone, friends, or only you. A share link is a separate control: people who have a link can view the list it shares even if your Wishlist is otherwise private. Review both profile privacy and any active links if you want to limit access.
