What the Problem bar means
The bottle icon and “Problem” label refer to an in-game attribute associated with alcohol dependency. It is easy to mistake for thirst, especially if you are familiar with My Summer Car, but players’ question—“Is the problem bar a thirst bar but slower?”—does not describe the mechanic accurately.
Community guides report that a high bar can bring shaking, blurred vision, fatigue, and problems with driving or work. Treat those as guide-reported effects, not a definitive list of officially documented symptoms.
How to manage it in ordinary gameplay
Guidance from players and community guides is not fully consistent. A guide recommends alcoholic drinks to lower the bar, while player discussion suggests water’s effect may depend on the character’s hidden alcoholism attribute. That means there is no well-established, guaranteed routine to recommend from these sources.

- Check the bar and your character’s condition in your current game build rather than assuming thirst is the cause.
- If you try an in-game drink or other suggested response, observe whether the bar changes in your save; do not assume the same result applies to every character setting.
- Use advice from community guides cautiously, since their exact timings, percentages, costs, and routines are not established as verified mechanics.
What about save editing?
A Steam community post describes changing the hidden playeralcoholism value by editing a save. That is anecdotal player testimony, not an official feature or validated fix. It also differs from ordinary gameplay: changing an underlying attribute is not the same as temporarily relieving symptoms. Back up a save before attempting any community-described edit, and do not treat a particular value or procedure as guaranteed.
Why advice may change between builds
My Winter Car is listed as an Early Access single-player survival game on Steam, and its official Steam community update feed shows continuing updates. The latest update visible in the cited feed search result is v.260917-01, dated September 17, 2026; its excerpt does not identify a change to the Problem bar. Check your installed build before relying on detailed workaround advice, and do not assume that update changed this mechanic.
