The main problem Bethesda documents is a misleading “disc required” message that some owners of the digital PS4 edition encounter while downloading the PS5 version. Bethesda says digital owners can bypass it through the PS5 game hub or PlayStation Store. Physical-copy owners have a different route and must keep the disc inserted to play.
Why does DOOM Eternal say “disc required” for a digital PS4 copy?
Bethesda’s support guidance says this prompt does not necessarily mean a disc is required for a digital purchase. Try either of these official download routes:

- From the PS5 game hub: Open the DOOM Eternal game hub, select the overflow menu, then choose “PS5|Full|DOOM Eternal – PS5 Upgrade.”
- From the PlayStation Store: Search for “DOOM Eternal PS5,” open the PS5 product tile marked “Purchased,” and select Download.
Bethesda documents these steps in its PS5 upgrade support page and download guidance. They apply to the PS5 versions of eligible campaign add-ons as well, which may need separate downloads.
What should physical PS4 owners do?
A physical PS4 copy uses the disc for its upgrade entitlement and to launch the game. You need a PS5 with a disc drive; a physical copy cannot be upgraded on a digital-only PS5.

- Open the game hub’s overflow menu and select “PS5|Full|DOOM Eternal: Standard Edition.”
- Check that the disc is from the same country as the PSN account being used.
- Keep the disc inserted whenever you play the PS5 version.
Bethesda describes the physical-disc upgrade requirements and PS4-to-PS5 upgrade steps in its support pages. Both documented upgrade routes are free; the physical route retains the ongoing disc requirement.
Why is the base game available but campaign DLC missing?
DOOM Eternal campaign add-ons can have separate PS5 upgrade downloads. Sign in with the account that purchased the add-on, then check the game hub overflow menu or Store for its PS5 product tile. Bethesda’s upgrade guidance covers eligible campaign add-ons, including The Ancient Gods, in its PS5 download instructions.

Does PS4 campaign progress transfer to PS5?
No. Bethesda says campaign save data does not transfer between PS4 and PS5. Online progression is preserved through the user’s Bethesda.net account, which is separate from campaign save files. Bethesda states: “While online progression is preserved between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles via the user’s Bethesda.net account, DOOM Eternal campaign save data will not transfer between consoles.” See the PS4-to-PS5 upgrade FAQ.
Is a BATTLEMODE online-privileges error part of the upgrade problem?
Not necessarily. Bethesda’s 2021 Update 6.66 notes treat the PS5 BATTLEMODE “#str_dlg_no_online_priveleges” message as an online-access issue, not an upgrade entitlement failure. The notes associate it with missing PlayStation Plus eligibility or, for subscribers, a network connection problem. Bethesda’s community manager wrote: “We will be adding clearer error messages for these cases in a future update.” These are historical notes and do not establish whether the error remains current. Check your PlayStation Plus entitlement and current network or platform service status. The original Update 6.66 release notes provide the dated context.

Which fix applies to your copy?

If these documented paths do not work, Bethesda’s pages cannot verify an individual account’s license, regional Store catalog, or current service status. The issue may therefore require checking the account and Store entitlement rather than assuming every failed upgrade has the same cause.
