Roblox’s default client frame-rate cap is 60 FPS. Roblox Creator Hub documentation says Windows users can raise that cap to 240 FPS. The cap sets the highest rate the Roblox client is allowed to reach, but it does not guarantee that your computer will reach it, and it does not change how fast the game server runs.
Default and maximum are different numbers
The default cap is 60 FPS. The higher option is the Maximum Framerate setting. Roblox Creator Hub documentation states that Windows users can raise the client cap up to 240 FPS. When Roblox introduced the feature in a Developer Forum announcement dated May 30, 2024, the menu choices were listed as Default (60 FPS), 60 FPS, 120 FPS, 144 FPS, and 240 FPS. That list reflects the values announced at launch. Use the current Creator Hub page as the reference for the Windows maximum, since menu choices can change between builds.
What the cap controls
Roblox’s performance overview says games target 60 FPS by default. At that rate, each frame occupies about 16.67 milliseconds, assuming frames are paced evenly. Roblox describes low or inconsistent client frame rates as reducing smoothness and responsiveness, which is why the cap matters most when your hardware can sustain more than 60 frames per second.
The cap governs the Roblox client only. It is separate from the server, which is covered below.

The announced values in frame time
The table converts each announced value into the time available for one frame. The arithmetic is simple division: 1,000 milliseconds divided by the frame rate. It shows the timing budget a machine has to meet, not a measured result.

The display column describes what a monitor needs in order to show a given rate. It does not mean the game will reach that rate on your hardware.

Three numbers that can differ
Most confusion about Roblox frame rates comes from treating three separate values as one. Keep them apart:
- The selected cap: the value you choose in Roblox’s Maximum Framerate setting.
- The rendered rate: the frames your computer actually produces. Device performance determines whether the selected cap is reached, and a higher cap alone does not make a slower machine render faster.
- The display refresh rate: how often your monitor can show new images. A display above 60 Hz is useful only when the client is producing more than 60 FPS and the monitor is set to refresh above 60 Hz.
The sources state the device-performance point but do not list every reason a PC might render below its selected cap. If you see a lower rate than expected, the cap is not the place to look first; check the Roblox performance tools the Creator Hub documents.

Client frame rate and server simulation
Raising the client cap does not make the Roblox server run faster. The May 2024 announcement answers the question directly. Asked whether the server runs at a higher frame rate, the answer was: “No, but you should still make sure you are using the delta time values appropriately even outside of clients.” Creator Hub separately states that server heartbeat is capped at 60 FPS and that a lower server heartbeat can indicate a performance problem.
For players, this means that a higher client setting can make motion look smoother on your own screen, but it does not change the server’s timing. For developers, delta time handling matters because game logic must stay correct whatever frame rate the client renders at.

Platform scope
The official material reviewed for this article confirms Windows support for the higher cap. The May 2024 announcement said Mac support would come later. The sources do not establish current Mac availability, and they do not establish a mobile, console, or cross-platform cap.
Player questions such as “How do I get 120fps on mobile?” and “How do you remove the FPS limiter on Android?” show that people are searching for this on phones. Those posts are questions from players, not evidence that a given phone or Roblox build supports a higher rate. Do not assume that a PC menu layout or value list applies on other devices.

When the higher options seem to be missing
A Roblox Developer Forum report dated May 10, 2026 described one player who could not see the higher Maximum Frame Rate values in the menu. The author later said the option returned. That is a single individual report. It does not show a product removal, an outage, or a rule that applies across all accounts or platforms.
- Confirm you are on Windows, since that is the platform the official documentation confirms for the higher cap.
- Restart Roblox and check the Maximum Framerate option in the Roblox menu again.
- If the higher values are still absent, post the details, including your Roblox build and Windows version, in the Roblox Developer Forum.
Choosing a display for a higher cap
A 144 Hz gaming monitor is a reasonable category to research if your Windows PC can already render above 60 FPS in Roblox and you want the display to refresh at that rate. The sources support that use case in general, but they do not validate any specific monitor model, brand, or price. A monitor will not raise the Roblox cap or make a slower PC reach a higher frame rate.
