Deadlock is a real Valve multiplayer game, but it was still in development as of October 8, 2026, and no public release date had been announced in the official listing reviewed. The claim that it could be “as big as Counter-Strike and Dota” is not verified as a statement from Valve or a reliable forecast. Here’s what is established about the game, its reported leak, and access.
What is Valve’s Deadlock?
Deadlock is a Valve multiplayer game in development. Its official Steam Community page describes it as “a multiplayer game in early development” and showed official updates, including one dated October 5, 2026. Steam Support identifies Valve as both developer and publisher and categorizes the game as an action title.
Those details establish that Deadlock is an active Valve project, not what its finished design or eventual launch will be. The sources reviewed do not establish a player count, sales outlook, or other measure of its future scale.
Was Deadlock leaked on X?
The claim that Deadlock was leaked on X, and the identity of the alleged original post, remain unverified in the sources reviewed. The game’s existence is confirmed by Valve’s Steam pages; that does not confirm the specific story about an X leak or where it originated.

Is Deadlock expected to be as big as Counter-Strike and Dota?
There is no verified evidence in the sources reviewed that Valve forecast Deadlock would become as large as Counter-Strike or Dota. Treat that wording as an unsubstantiated comparison, not a quote from Valve or a prediction supported by player, sales, or market figures. A comparison of games’ mechanics would also be different from a claim about their eventual popularity.
When is Deadlock coming out?
Steam Support lists Deadlock’s release date as “To be announced.” No public release date is established by the official listing.

A PC Gamer report dated September 30, 2026, describing Valve’s development update, says the team still had substantial core-game work to do before later polish phases. The report also describes progression, hero and hideout customization, item changes, and alternative modes as being at different stages; some possibilities depended on playtesting. That account does not amount to a launch announcement or a promise of an imminent public release.
How do you get access to Deadlock?
Valve’s developer forum post from August 1, 2024, described invite-based access delivered through Steam. That is a historical account of the access system at that time, not confirmation of the current October 2026 policy. Check Valve’s current Deadlock Steam pages for present access information rather than assuming the 2024 invite details still apply.

What Valve has said about developing Deadlock
In the September 2026 development update, as reproduced by PC Gamer, Valve explained its early-player approach: “We think building a multiplayer game is very hard and risky, and the best way to minimize that risk [is] to make sure that we are able to have it in players’ hands from an early state to help us shape it and tell us what is fun and what isn’t.” The bracketed “[is]” is an editorial insertion in the report’s reproduced quotation.
This describes why Valve involves players during development; it should not be read as a date for public launch. For a current status check, Valve’s Deadlock Steam Community page provides the official game description and dated updates, while Steam Support’s listing provides the developer, publisher, and release-date status.
