Sims speak Simlish, a fictional language created for The Sims. The phrases most often recognized by players include “Sul Sul” (commonly glossed as “hello”), “Dag Dag” (“goodbye”) and “Nooboo” (“baby”). These are useful clues, not entries in a complete official dictionary: translations beyond a few familiar expressions are community-reported and may depend on context.
Common Simlish phrases and meanings
The table distinguishes widely recognized greetings from less certain community glosses. The Sims Community’s phrase list and Sheri’s Tips & Info glossary provide many of these interpretations; they should be treated as approximate rather than authoritative translations.
| Simlish phrase | Commonly reported meaning | Context and confidence |
|---|---|---|
| Sul Sul | Hello; sometimes a farewell | A widely recognized greeting, though use can vary with context. Epic Games Store and community lists include it. |
| Dag Dag | Goodbye | Commonly listed as a farewell. Epic Games Store and community lists include it. |
| Nooboo | Baby | Repeated in community phrase lists; not an official dictionary definition. |
| Vadish | Thank you | A community glossary gloss. |
| Yibbs / Yibbsy | Yes | A community glossary gloss. |
| Neib | No | A community glossary gloss. |
| Chumcha | Food | A community glossary gloss; a Sims 4 player discussion suggests related usage may refer to drinks or food rather than one fixed item. |
| Meckchate | Checkmate | The Sims Community reports it as a phrase Sims say when they win at chess. |
| Za Woka Genava | A flirtatious “you are hot” or come-on | Reported as flirtatious; the English wording is approximate. |
| Feebee Lay | An apparent hunger complaint | The “Feed me NOW!” interpretation is a humorous contextual reading, not a certified translation. |
| Disgroofle | “Disgusting!” | An interpretation reported by The Sims Community. |
| Choo Waga Choo Choo | A complaint that something is blocking movement | A contextual interpretation reported by The Sims Community, not a formal dictionary translation. |
How reliable are Simlish translations?
Simlish is an invented language for the game world, but that does not mean every spoken line has a settled English equivalent. An Epic Games Store overview of Simlish says there is no official dictionary. Phrase lists are therefore best read as guides to recognizable expressions and their reported uses, not as a system for translating every conversation.
Interpretations can also vary between games and situations. In an EA Forums discussion about whether Simlish is learnable, one player says a phrase glossed elsewhere as “pizza” sounded more like a positive reaction to a drink or food in The Sims 4. That is one player’s impression, not a definitive correction. For an unfamiliar phrase, consider which game it appears in, what is happening in the scene and whether the interpretation comes from an official overview, an editorial list or an individual player.

Can you learn Simlish?
