Super Mario Run’s 2017 Remix 10 update gives the game a brisker way to play: ten short courses arrive in sequence, and the selection changes each time. That rotating format can make a quick session feel less like replaying the same long course, though Nintendo’s feature descriptions do not prove that players universally found the game fun again. Whether Remix 10 works for you depends on how much you enjoy short runs, collecting medals and chasing Daisy.
What is Remix 10?
Remix 10 strings together ten short courses, one after another. Nintendo describes the courses as changing with each play, making the mode a compact alternative to the longer World Tour course format. The key difference is the session shape: rather than choosing one extended course, you move through a quick sequence.

Nintendo’s current game description calls it “Super Mario Run in bite-sized bursts” and says players go through “10 short courses one after the other, with the courses changing each time you play.” Nintendo’s Canadian game description presents that as a feature description, not an independent verdict on how enjoyable the mode is.
How Remix 10’s rewards work
Completing a sequence of ten courses leads to a bonus game where you can obtain items. Bonus medals collected along the way contribute to access to a super bonus game, which offers a chance at rare items; Nintendo notes that special courses may provide many medals. The rewards give the sequence a collection goal beyond simply finishing each short course.

- A variety of playable characters are available, some with unique attributes that affect gameplay and platforming physics.
- Younger and less-experienced players will love playing as Toadette, who is brand new to both games, and Nabbit, who was formerly only playable in New Super Luigi U. Both characters offer extra assistance during play.
- Multiplayer sessions are even more fun, frantic, and exciting thanks to entertaining character interactions. Need a boost? Try jumping off a teammate’s head or getting a teammate to throw you.
- Features a wealth of help features, like a Hints gallery, reference videos, and a Super Guide in New Super Mario Bros. U that can complete levels for you if they’re giving you trouble.
- Three additional modes—Boost Rush, Challenges, and Coin Battle—mix up gameplay and add replayability, while also upping the difficulty for players who want to try something harder. Players can use their Mii characters in these modes.
Finding Daisy
Daisy is the character goal associated with Remix 10. Nintendo’s current description says she is lost somewhere in the mode and advises clearing courses to find her. The 2017 update announcements describe her as unlockable through Remix 10, but they do not establish a precise course count or a guaranteed number of runs. Once playable, Daisy’s stated special ability is a double jump.
What else came in the 2017 update?
Remix 10 was part of a broader update, not a standalone addition. Nintendo announced the update in Japan on 29 September 2017; its South African announcement followed on 4 October, so dates vary by region. The update also added nine World Star courses, Daisy, and Headphone Mario.

- Jump through a colorful world and give attacks some extra oomph in battle!
- Explore the vibrant environments with your party and jump towards your next goal!
- Run into monsters to enter turn-based battles with your party of three.
- Press the button at the right time for a satisfying dose of extra damage or helpful guard.
- World Star: Nine additional courses, including forest, coin-filled airship or ship, and ghost-house settings. Nintendo’s Japanese announcement says World Star appears after rescuing Princess Peach.
- Daisy: A new playable character with a double jump.
- Headphone Mario: An option to turn off the game’s background music and listen to your own music. It is a music setting, not a required accessory or separate course.
Nintendo’s regional announcements describe the update’s additions in its Japanese announcement and South African announcement.
Does Remix 10 make the game fun again?
It offers a clear reason the game may feel livelier: its short, changing sequences are designed for quick repeat sessions, while medals, bonus games and the Daisy goal give those sessions a progression thread. If you prefer a defined, brief challenge to returning to a longer course, that structure may suit you better.

That is a design-based case, not proof of a universal change in player enjoyment. Nintendo’s feature pages specify what the update added, but they do not provide independent reception evidence or player-satisfaction figures. The update’s appeal therefore depends on whether the quick loop and its rewards are the kind of play you want.

Nintendo describes Super Mario Run as a mobile game for iOS and Android, controlled by tapping while Mario runs forward and designed for one-handed play. Its store description says a compatible smartphone and persistent internet connection are required. The game can be downloaded free, with some content available free; Nintendo says purchasing unlocks all modes without additional payment, and Remix 10 can then be played continuously without waiting.
Those are Nintendo’s stated access terms, not a confirmation of current price, regional availability or device compatibility. The 2017 Japanese launch promotion was 600 yen—half the regular 1,200 yen—from 29 September through 12 October 2017; it was a limited historical offer, not a current price. Check the listing for your region and device before deciding to buy. Nintendo’s Canadian game page provides the publisher’s description of the game and its access model.
Quick Recap
Who is Remix 10 for?
- Try it if you want short sessions, changing course sequences, collectible rewards or a reason to work toward Daisy.
- Look beyond it if your main interest is the longer World Tour format, or if the medals and bonus-game loop do not appeal to you.
- Consider the wider update if nine more World Star courses or Daisy’s double jump matter more to you than Remix 10’s replay structure.
