Bring your ticket or badge details, a charged phone with the schedule saved, a payment card plus some cash, and—if the event allows it—a small, comfortable, non-wheeled bag. Check the specific expo’s current rules before packing food, drinks, or a larger carrier: bag checks, bottle rules, and prohibited items vary by organizer.
What should I bring to a retro gaming expo?
- Ticket or badge details: Keep your QR code or admission confirmation easy to access, and follow the organizer’s instructions for pickup and display. RetroGameCon, for example, requires badges to be clearly displayed above the waist. RetroGameCon’s FAQ
- A charged phone: Save or screenshot your ticket, schedule, venue map, and any details your group may need. RetroGameCon says it has no public Wi-Fi, so do not rely on an internet connection to retrieve essentials. RetroGameCon’s FAQ
- Payment options: Bring a card and some cash. Vendor payment methods vary, and an on-site ATM may not be a dependable backup.
- A small daypack, if permitted: A compact, non-wheeled bag can hold personal essentials and purchases without the bulk of luggage. Check the event’s rules before you go.
- A short shopping list and budget: A few priority games, systems, or accessories can help you browse a large marketplace without making impulse buys your only plan. Stock and prices vary by vendor.
Do not assume you need to bring a console or controller to play. RetroGameCon advertises free-play systems, but that does not establish the hardware policy at other events. RetroGameCon activities
Can I bring a bag or backpack into the expo?
Check the specific event’s current bag policy; there is no universal retro-expo rule. Retro World Expo allows small bags and backpacks and may inspect them. RetroGameCon conducts bag checks and metal-detector screening, and prohibits suitcases, handcarts, trolleys, oversized strollers, rolling luggage, and wheeled backpacks. Retro World Expo FAQ RetroGameCon FAQ
A small, lightweight daypack is a more practical choice than luggage where bags are allowed, but confirm the permitted size and screening procedure on the organizer’s website. RetroGameCon also says it has no coat check or public storage, so do not plan to leave a prohibited carrier at the venue. RetroGameCon FAQ

Should I bring cash, or will vendors take cards?
Bring some cash even if you plan to pay by card. RetroGameCon says most vendors accept cards or other electronic payments, but recommends cash as a backup; its lobby ATM may run out. Retro World Expo notes that payment methods vary and some vendors may accept only cash. RetroGameCon FAQ Retro World Expo FAQ
As RetroGameCon’s official FAQ puts it: “Most vendors DO accept credit cards and other electronic payments. However, it is always a good idea to bring some cash just in case!” That is advice about RetroGameCon, not a guarantee about every expo or vendor. RetroGameCon FAQ

Can I bring water, snacks, or outside food?
Check the event’s food and drink policy before packing anything. RetroGameCon prohibits outside food and beverages but allows empty water bottles. Retro World Expo allows a single bottle of water or another drink but prohibits outside food. These examples show why a rule from one event should not be assumed to apply at another.
