If your PS5 DualSense stick moves or registers input when you are not touching it, reset the controller first, then check its software. If the problem continues, use PlayStation Repairs and check your local warranty before paying for service or replacing the controller. These steps can help rule out basic issues, but a reset or update is not a guaranteed fix for every cause of drift.
1. Confirm the stick issue
Stick drift is when an analog stick appears to move or sends input even though you are not touching it. PlayStation groups related problems under “button or stick issue”; that description does not establish that every drift symptom has the same cause.

2. Reset the DualSense controller
PlayStation Support describes resetting as an early troubleshooting step for controller problems. You will need a pin or similar small tool, which is not included with the controller.
- Turn off the PS5.
- Find the small reset button on the back of the controller and press it with a pin or similar tool.
- Reconnect the controller to the PS5 using a USB cable, then press the PS button.
PlayStation says resetting does not reconfigure the controller or affect its pairing settings. If the stick still registers movement on its own, continue to the software check rather than assuming the reset has repaired a hardware fault. PlayStation Support: Controllers

3. Check for controller software updates
PlayStation says DualSense device software updates are added when PS5 system software updates are released. On the console, check the controller software setting using this route:
Settings > Accessories > Controller (General) > DualSense Wireless Controller Device Software

Menu wording can change with software revisions, so follow the current labels shown on your PS5. PlayStation also provides a PC update route through the PlayStation Accessories application. If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions, then test the stick again.
4. If drift persists, use PlayStation Repairs
If resetting and checking software have not resolved the issue, use the PlayStation Repairs diagnostic tool and select the applicable stick or controller issue. Check the service options for your region and review the warranty terms before opening the controller or paying a third-party repair service. PlayStation does not publish a repair price, turnaround time, or success rate in the cited support guidance, so confirm those details with the service provider before proceeding.

5. Check warranty and compare repair with replacement
Warranty and service terms depend on where you live. The cited US DualSense manual states a one-year warranty for defects in material or workmanship, requires proof of purchase, and says Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC may repair or replace the product with a new or factory-recertified product at its option. That is US-specific language, not a universal warranty promise. Check the terms that apply in your region before paying for a repair or buying another controller. Once you know whether warranty service is available, weigh the confirmed repair cost and turnaround against the cost of a replacement DualSense wireless controller. The cited sources do not establish current repair pricing, replacement pricing, or how often a repair succeeds.

Is the DualSense Edge stick module compatible?
