There is no single correct follow-up: choose Doom Patrol for an unusual outsider team, The Penguin for a grounded crime story, or Superman: The Animated Series for classic animated superhero adventure. These are different kinds of matches, not one shared viewing order.
Choose by what you liked about the series
| Next watch | Best fit if you want | Format and focus | Connection to other DC stories |
|---|---|---|---|
| Doom Patrol (2019–2023) | An oddball, vulnerable ensemble | Live action; superpowered people dealing with trauma and social rejection, in a blend of action, comedy, and drama | An independently approachable team story; the cited official description does not establish a required viewing order |
| The Penguin | A grounded crime story in a comic-book world | Live action; an eight-episode crime-and-gangster story starring Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb | Continues Matt Reeves’ The Batman crime saga |
| Superman: The Animated Series (1996–2000) | Animated superhero adventure | Animation; action, adventure, and science fiction centered on Superman’s battles against villainy | A classic series that can be approached on its own |
For a strange, emotionally bruised team: Doom Patrol
DC describes the Doom Patrol as superpowered people scarred by accidents and rejected by society who come together to investigate strange phenomena. Its mix of action, comedy, and drama makes it a natural choice if the appeal of your first series was watching a team of misfits learn to function together. It is a taste match, not a claim that the shows share continuity.
For a darker, smaller-scale detour: The Penguin
If you want comic-book characters without a conventional superhero-team focus, try The Penguin. DC describes it as an eight-episode crime-and-gangster series about Oz Cobb, and connects it to Matt Reeves’ The Batman crime saga. Expect a shift toward criminal power struggles rather than a broad team adventure. DC’s series page identifies that connection.
For animated heroic storytelling: Superman: The Animated Series
For a change of format rather than a darker tone, DC’s Superman: The Animated Series (1996–2000) offers action, adventure, and science fiction built around Superman’s battles against villainy. It is a straightforward option if you want a central hero and animated storytelling rather than another live-action ensemble.

Do not assume every DC show shares a timeline
A DC label alone does not make series part of one continuity. In an August 11, 2025 overview, DC Studios distinguished projects in its shared DC Universe from projects outside it; the article discussed Superman and Peacemaker season two in the shared-universe context, while placing Matt Reeves’ Batman projects outside that continuity. Separately, DC describes The Penguin as part of The Batman saga. Those distinctions make The Penguin an adjacent branch, not a general continuation of any DC series you happened to watch. The 2025 overview records the studio’s position at that time, not a permanent schedule or guarantee of future plans. Read DC’s August 2025 continuity overview.

If none of those matches your taste, DC’s TV series catalog lists titles across live action and animation, including Creature Commandos, Batman: Caped Crusader, My Adventures with Superman, and Superman & Lois.
