The Xbox Series S (Model 1883) has an internal power supply rated for 100–240 V AC, 50–60 Hz, up to 2.3 A. It can generally run on household power in both 120 V and 220–240 V regions without a step-down transformer. The cord carries the local mains supply; the console’s internal power supply is what accepts the voltage. You may still need a plug adapter or a locally suitable replacement cord.
Xbox Series S power specifications
iFixit lists these ratings for the Xbox Series S Model 1883 internal power supply. Microsoft’s environmental information identifies the console as having an internal power supply, rather than an external power brick.

The 12 V DC figure is the internal supply’s output, not the voltage from the wall and not the rating to look for on a replacement mains cord. The 2.3 A figure is the maximum input current listed for the supply; it does not mean the console draws 2.3 A continuously during gameplay. iFixit’s Series S power-supply listing provides the electrical ratings, while Microsoft’s environmental information identifies the internal PSU and Model 1883.
Is the Xbox Series S dual-voltage?
For the Model 1883 power supply with the listed 100–240 V AC input, yes: it accepts the common household voltage range used in 120 V and 220–240 V regions. That includes typical 120 V supplies in the United States and Canada, 230 V supplies in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, and the commonly used 220–240 V range in much of Europe. Japan’s commonly used 100 V supply is at the lower edge of the stated range, so check the console’s own markings and local conditions rather than assuming all installations are identical.

Do you need a voltage converter when traveling?
Based on the listed 100–240 V input rating, a step-down transformer is normally unnecessary when taking a compatible Series S between 120 V and 220–240 V regions. The plug shape may differ, however, so you may need a plug adapter or a replacement cord suited to the destination’s outlet.

A plug adapter alone is not suitable for equipment that only accepts a different voltage. The Series S is different because its listed internal PSU input covers 100–240 V. Use a sound, secure adapter and check that any power strip or surge protector is rated for the destination’s mains supply; loose or poorly made adapters can overheat or make unreliable contact.

Choosing a replacement power cord
If the console works and only the detachable cord is missing or damaged, you need a cord—not an internal power supply. Microsoft lists a power cord as an included accessory and says replacement power cables are available through Xbox support and other retailers. Its Xbox Series S product page lists the included cord, and its environmental information covers replacement cables.

A replacement should have all of the following:
- Explicit compatibility with Xbox Series S, or Xbox Series X|S compatibility that explicitly includes your console.
- The correct connector for the console and a wall plug suited to your country.
- Appropriate mains voltage and current ratings, plus safety markings recognized in the country where you will use it.
- A clear seller identity and a sound cord, with no loose contacts, exposed conductors, damaged insulation or signs of overheating.
Do not rely on physical fit alone or on a vague marketplace claim that a cable is “Xbox compatible.” The available information does not establish a universal connector standard or a single cord specification for every region, so verify those details with the seller or Xbox support. Microsoft’s general information that replacement cables are available does not mean every third-party cable is suitable.
Is the cord bad, or has the internal power supply failed?
A cord fault is more plausible when the original lead is visibly damaged or power cuts in and out as the connection moves. If the console is completely dead, a bad outlet, power strip or internal fault can produce a similar symptom. Use this check before considering an internal repair:

- Temporarily bypass a questionable power strip or surge protector and connect to a known-good outlet.
- Try a compatible, undamaged cord that is correctly rated for the local mains.
- If the console still will not power on, or it shuts down repeatedly, seek service or have the internal power supply diagnosed rather than buying another cord at random.
Stop using the console and cord if you notice frayed insulation, exposed wire, melted plastic, scorch marks, a loose connector, repeated sparking, a burning smell, unusual buzzing or overheating. Microsoft’s Series S Service Guide is repair documentation; do not open the console just to check its voltage rating.
Replacing the internal power supply
The internal PSU is a separate component from the mains cord. Microsoft offers a replacement power-supply unit for Xbox Series S Model 1883; its US listing showed $89.99 when checked in August 2026, but price and availability can change. Do not assume every part advertised for “Xbox Series S” fits every revision. Microsoft’s listing identifies compatibility with a 1 TB Model 1883 configuration with a 14-digit serial number; iFixit’s listing references a separate 12-digit-serial-number variant. Check the label on the back-right of the console, confirm the model and serial-number configuration, and compare those details with the exact part before ordering. Microsoft says self-repair is intended for people with the required technical competence and that customer-caused damage is not covered by the limited hardware warranty.
How to verify your console model
- Read the label on the back-right of the console; Microsoft’s service materials identify that location for model and serial information.
- Confirm that the model is 1883, then note the serial-number configuration when checking an internal replacement PSU.
- For a cord, check the replacement’s own electrical markings and connector, as well as the wall-plug type required where you will use it.
- For a PSU, match the full compatibility details on the official or repair-part listing before purchasing.
Microsoft’s environmental information identifies the console as Model 1883; the service guide describes model and serial identification on the device.
