Frostpunk 2’s free Patch 1.3 update went live on May 8, 2025. It adds The Pit map and optional Frostland challenges, replaces global heat demand with district-level heat management, and introduces Serenity Mode and Frostkit 1.0 modding tools. The update is free; it is content for Frostpunk 2, not a separately paid add-on.
What Patch 1.3 adds
In its May 8, 2025 announcement, 11 bit studios described Patch 1.3 as a free major content update. Its headline additions are a new Utopia Builder map, narrative challenges, revised heat mechanics, a lower-pressure difficulty option, and an updated modding toolkit.

The Pit map
The Pit is a large Utopia Builder sandbox centered on the remains of a failed Generator construction project. Its proto-crater counts as mountain terrain. Players can choose it as their starting location or use it as a Frostland colonization site.
Tales from the Frostland
These optional, narrative-driven challenges add quests and storylines to Utopia Builder. The update announcement names Beacon of Hope, Apocalyptic Whiteout, and Depleted Cores. More than one Tale can be combined in a playthrough; the publisher warns that failing a Tale results in game over. Completing a challenge unlocks a buildable Monument.

How district-level heat management works
Patch 1.3 replaces the global heat-demand concept with local heat levels for districts. The publisher’s patch notes put it this way: “Districts now have local heat levels, replacing the global heat demand concept.” Each district can be Freezing, Very Cold, Cold, Chilly, Livable, or Warm. Players allocate heat from the Generator through multiple heat-allocation levels, with a new overlay showing temperature-related information.
The practical change is that a city’s overall heat supply is no longer the only consideration: players must monitor where heat is going and which districts need it. According to 11 bit studios, local shortages can lead to sickness, injuries, or death, while citizens may respond with negotiations, protests, or praise. The patch also changes laws and research that previously affected heat demand. These are publisher-described mechanics, not independent test findings.

Choose Serenity Mode for a gentler Utopia Builder
Serenity Mode is a Utopia Builder difficulty setting intended to reduce pressure from weather and faction conflict. It offers milder weather, abundant resources, shorter whiteouts, and no Fervour system. The publisher says it minimizes protests and faction conflict, and that Serenity Mode can be combined with other difficulty presets.
Other gameplay, interface, and modding changes
Patch 1.3 also rebalances the prologue, adds a midpoint start option, updates quests and tutorials, changes city visuals and district layouts, enables manual Plaza placement, and improves roadfinding.

For creators, Frostkit 1.0 left beta with new or improved tools, including a search bar, revised mod menu, play-in-editor mode, improved loading times, and tutorials. The announcement also lists nine new research topics, two new buildings, three rebalanced technologies, one new law, and five reworked laws. These are the publisher’s feature counts, not measures of performance or player outcomes.

On May 15, 2025, 11 bit studios published Hotfix #1. The notice documents fixes for gameplay, interface, art, and stability issues. Gameplay items included a freeze during weather changes when heat auto-allocation was enabled, a Heat demand tooltip problem, and a Depleted Cores objective that could incorrectly trigger game over under catastrophic cold. The notice records the fixes listed by the publisher; it does not establish that every reported issue was resolved.
