Can you sign up for Early Access?
For the public Early Access version, the answer is no sign-up is required. The official sources that describe the launch link readers to Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Xbox/Microsoft Store. Steam describes its Early Access listing as providing instant access once you buy, so there is no waiting list, application form, or queue to join.
If you saw a sign-up page, a waitlist, or a “request access” form, it was not tied to the public launch described by Unknown Worlds. Check that the page belongs to the official studio or storefront before entering any personal details.

Public Early Access vs. the Experimental branch
Readers often mix up two separate things. The public Early Access build is the game itself, sold through a storefront. The Experimental branch is an opt-in preview of builds that have not yet reached the main version. Unknown Worlds describes Experimental as an opt-in experience, and it warns that these builds may contain bugs, including ones that could break the game.

How to join the Experimental branch on Steam
- In your Steam Library, right-click Subnautica 2.
- Select Properties, then open the Game Versions & Betas tab.
- Under Beta Participation, choose Experimental.
- Close the window. Steam starts the update to the Experimental build.
How to join the Experimental branch on Xbox
- Join the Xbox Insider Program.
- Install or open the Xbox Insider Hub app.
- Go to Previews and select “Subnautica 2 Experimental (Public Test).”
- Select join. Only accounts that meet the 18+ and ownership or Game Pass Ultimate requirements above can take part.
What you pay and what you get
Unknown Worlds announced a launch price of $29.99 USD. The studio said pricing would be localized by region, so the amount you see may differ, and the storefront shows your current local price. The announcement also said the game only needs to be purchased once during Early Access. Additions, updates, and hotfixes are included through version 1.0 and beyond. These are the announced terms; confirm them on your storefront before buying.
The Steam listing describes the current Early Access build as including multiplayer, several biomes, some narrative, creatures, and craftables. The developers say more content and improvements are planned, but they do not commit to a schedule for them. The listing also describes the game as designed for solo play, with optional online co-op for up to three friends.

How long will Early Access last?

Why the studio uses Early Access
The Steam listing gives the developers’ explanation for the approach: “We make our best games when you are involved from the start. The earlier you play, the faster we hear what you want. This is how we have historically built our games. By involving you in the development process and iterating on your feedback, we build better games.” The listing attributes this to Unknown Worlds Entertainment and does not name an individual speaker.
For buyers, this means the current build is a working game with a defined set of features, not a finished product. Expect content and fixes to arrive over time, and expect the game to change as feedback is applied.
