Marvel Rivals officially launched on December 6, 2024. NetEase’s global launch notice set the worldwide release at 0:00 UTC on December 6, which fell on the evening of December 5 for players in the Americas. The date was first announced in August 2024, and the release itself went live across several platforms at once.
The global launch time, in UTC and local zones
The official launch notice gave the release time in UTC and in two US time zones. The wording it used was “releasing today at 0:00, (7PM EST, 4PM PST).” Converted, those times line up as follows.

The difference is one of time zones, not of platforms. Players in Europe, Asia and other regions east of UTC would have reached December 6 earlier in their local day, so the global date is the one to cite.
Why some players remember December 5
Anyone in North America who checked a storefront or a countdown on the evening of December 5 saw the game become available while their local calendar still read December 5. That is the source of the mismatch. When you cite a launch date, use December 6, 2024 with the UTC reference, and note the local evening of December 5 only as the local-time equivalent.

Launch channels
The global launch notice listed the following channels as live at release:
- Steam
- PlayStation
- Xbox
- Epic Games Store
- The official Marvel Rivals website, where the official FAQ calls the launcher “Loading Bay”
These are launch-era details from December 2024. Storefront availability and supported platforms can change after launch, so check the official FAQ for the current list before relying on it.

Free-to-play at launch
The August 21, 2024 announcement described Marvel Rivals as free-to-play at launch, with heroes unlocked and available at no cost. That describes the playable hero roster. It does not mean every cosmetic or optional in-game purchase was free.
Timeline of the date announcements
- August 21, 2024: The developer announced the planned launch. The announcement states: “We’re excited to announce that Marvel Rivals is set to officially launch on December 6th this year.” It was issued by the Marvel Rivals team, not by an individual, and is published at the official launch announcement.
- December 2, 2024: The PlayStation Blog published a preview by Stephen Wu, Producer, Marvel Rivals, that also confirmed the December 6 launch on PS5.
- December 5, 2024 (UTC release day eve): NetEase published the global launch notice, which gave the 0:00 UTC release time and the EST and PST equivalents quoted above.
A note on the soundtrack vinyl
The December 5 launch notice also said the Marvel Rivals Galactic Tunes soundtrack vinyl was available for preorder through Mutant. That is a merchandise detail rather than part of the release date. Current stock and retailer availability were not verified for this article, so check the seller directly before ordering.
