Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Send a survivor to the Laboratory only when they show a symptom your current symptom list and diagnostic tools cannot identify, and finding out what it is is worth losing that survivor. The test is fatal to the subject, so the Lab is a costly way to gain information, not a safe place to hold someone. A suspicious case that you can still observe belongs in quarantine.
What the Lab is for
The Lab exists to identify an unrecognized symptom. Steam’s “About This Game” description for Quarantine Zone: The Last Check states that the tests are “always fatal to the subject.” That single fact should drive every decision: analysis cannot be undone, and the survivor is gone once the procedure starts.
The fan-maintained Quarantine Zone Wiki (its Lab guide was last updated January 19, 2026) gives two situations where sending someone makes sense: a diagnostic tool shows “???” instead of a result, or a visible sign on a survivor does not match any entry in your symptom list.
Lab, quarantine, or liquidation
Three dispositions compete for the same survivor. They answer different questions, so the choice depends on what you still need to know.
#1 Best Overall
| Option | What it gives you | What it costs | Use it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Laboratory | A chance to discover an unknown symptom and add it to your list | The survivor dies; the outcome is irreversible | The sign is unrecognized and identifying it is worth a life |
| Quarantine | Observation of a suspicious case over time, as Steam describes it | Time, and the survivor stays in your care | The case is suspicious but you need more evidence rather than a definitive discovery |
| Liquidation | A separate disposition with its own outcome | Not stated in the Steam listing or the Lab guide as a substitute for analysis | Not established as a response to an unfamiliar symptom alone |
A practical decision rule
- Unknown sign and high information value: send to the Lab. The sign is unrecognized, the discovery will help future decisions, and you accept that the subject will not survive.
- Suspicious but still unresolved: quarantine is an available path. Do not treat the Lab as mandatory for every uncertain survivor.
- Known symptom already on your list: the Steam listing and the Lab guide do not establish any benefit from repeating its discovery, so do not send survivors there for it.
How a Lab run works
The steps below follow the fan-maintained guide’s description of the minigame. The Steam listing confirms the fatal consequence and the Lab’s general purpose, but it does not document the controls in detail, so treat the specifics as guide-reported and check them against your current build.
- Identify an unknown symptom on the survivor.
- Choose Lab rather than quarantine or liquidation.
- Wait for the “Ready” prompt before starting. The Lab handles one person at a time.
- Interact with the monitor.
- Navigate to the green target organ. The guide says this target is chosen at random and does not correspond to the actual symptom.
- If yellow or orange organs block the path, clear them.
- Avoid the red protected organs. The guide says two red-organ mistakes fail the experiment.
- Extract the green organ.
- Place the sample and run the analysis. Do not exit with Escape partway through; the guide warns that this can stop the sample from counting.
Rewards and timing
According to the same guide, a successful analysis unlocks the symptom in your list the following day and awards Science Points (RP). The listed values are:

The guide places the Lab’s availability at the first unknown symptom, usually around Days 4–5, and says notifications for new symptoms stop after Day 5. These are guide-reported patterns, not an official guarantee for every progression path, so a particular run may differ.

The Steam listing (release date January 12, 2026) and the official site establish the broad premise: you inspect survivors and decide their fate, and the Lab is a fatal test. They do not publish the minigame’s exact controls, reward values, or unlock timing. Those details come from the fan guide and should be checked in-game before you plan a critical run around them.

No named expert or official staff member has offered a Lab strategy in the sources used here, so this article does not attribute any strategy advice to an individual.
The rule that matters most is the one the game itself makes plain: a Lab run costs the survivor, so use it only when the answer is worth that cost.
