Golden PokéStops don’t have a fixed map location. In Pokémon GO, a PokéStop turns gold when a Trainer places a Golden Lure on it, and in some limited events stops turn gold without any lure. If you’re looking for one, you’ll usually find it by spotting a gold stop nearby or by placing a lure yourself.
What a Golden PokéStop is
According to the Pokémon GO Help Center, a Golden Lure is a sparkly lure that transforms a PokéStop into a Golden PokéStop. While active, it also attracts wild Pokémon and occasionally attracts the Coin Chest Pokémon. A Trainer can hold only one Golden Lure at a time.

Golden stops behave like regular PokéStops in most respects. The Help Center’s guide to visiting stops adds one difference: spinning a gold stop’s Photo Disc may award Mysterious Coins and additional items, though the page does not promise a coin on every spin.
Where to find one
Official material does not publish a list of Golden PokéStop locations, and Golden Stops are not a permanent feature of any particular area. They appear in two ways, and each works differently.

| Type | How it appears | Who controls it | Rewards and encounter rules |
|---|---|---|---|
| Player-placed Golden Lure | A Trainer places a Golden Lure on a PokéStop, turning it gold | The Trainer who placed the lure; nearby players can use the stop while it’s active | Spins may award Mysterious Coins and items; the Help Center describes the lure’s wild Pokémon and Coin Chest Pokémon attraction |
| Event gold stops (no lure needed) | Stops turn gold during a limited event, as in the 2023 Searching for Gold Research Day | The event schedule set by Niantic | Event rules apply. In the 2023 event, Roaming Form Gimmighoul did not appear at no-lure stops, but players could still obtain Gimmighoul Coins by spinning them |
Don’t assume every gold stop has a lure behind it. A gold stop during an event may have no lure at all, so check the event’s own rules before planning around it.
Practical ways to locate one:
- Walk your area and look for gold-colored stops on the map. This is the most direct method, and the only one the game itself supports.
- Ask local players when they plan to place a Golden Lure. Community coordination is the realistic way to plan a visit, but it is not an official locator.
- Check official Pokémon GO announcements for temporary gold-stop events, which are the only predictable source of gold stops without a lure.
How to get Golden Lure Modules
The official launch announcement describes a linking route between Pokémon GO and Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet on Nintendo Switch. Sending postcards through that connection enables the Coin Bag, and sending multiple postcards can provide Golden Lure Modules. The Switch games are optional; event gold stops can appear without this route.

- Spin PokéStops or throw Poké Balls automatically in Pokémon GO for hands-free gameplay (and Great Balls and Ultra Balls can be thrown too!)
- Install Pokémon GO and Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet on the same Nintendo Switch setup, following the in-game linking instructions.
- Send postcards between the games as the in-game instructions describe.
- Collect the Coin Bag reward the postcards enable, and check whether it has been changed.
- Use the Golden Lure Module on a PokéStop to turn it gold.
The launch announcement says the Coin Bag can be used once a day after sending a postcard. The current Help Center separately states that only one Golden Lure can be held at a time. These two points don’t contradict each other, but distribution rules can change, so follow the in-game instructions for the current limits.
If another nearby player has placed a Golden Lure, you can spin that stop without owning a lure yourself. Official material does not provide a live map of player-placed lures.

Why players look for them
Golden stops are mainly valuable for Gimmighoul Coins. The official launch announcement states that Roaming Form Gimmighoul can provide coins when caught or walked as a Buddy, and that 999 Gimmighoul Coins are needed to evolve it into Gholdengo.
The Help Center calls the occasional spawn associated with the Golden Lure the Coin Chest Pokémon, while the launch announcement names Roaming Form Gimmighoul. Feature names and encounter mechanics change over time, so trust the current in-game labels.
