The Blazing Drake mount drops from Madness of Deathwing, the final encounter in the Dragon Soul raid. Blizzard’s Patch 4.3 collectibles listing identifies it as a rare drop available in 10-player and 25-player versions on both Normal and Heroic difficulty.
Which Dragon Soul boss drops the Blazing Drake?
The mount is obtained as the Reins of the Blazing Drake from Madness of Deathwing. Blizzard’s Patch 4.3 collectibles listing names the encounter and describes the reins as a “Rare drop from Madness of Deathwing.”
Which raid modes can drop it?
Blizzard lists the Blazing Drake for both raid sizes and both difficulties:
- 10-player Normal
- 10-player Heroic
- 25-player Normal
- 25-player Heroic
That official listing is the clearest source for the mount’s availability. Community discussions sometimes make conflicting claims about which Dragon Soul mounts drop on particular difficulties; those claims do not supersede Blizzard’s listing for this mount.

How do you reach Madness of Deathwing?
Madness of Deathwing is the final Dragon Soul encounter. A 2020 player discussion describes the raid route as linear and says the preceding seven bosses, including Spine of Deathwing, must be cleared to reach it unless a relevant saved lockout applies. That is dated community guidance, not current official confirmation of skip or lockout behavior. Check your in-game raid access rather than relying on an assumed shortcut.
How many runs does the mount take?
Blizzard calls it a rare drop but does not publish a percentage chance or an expected number of attempts. Player reports of how many runs they needed are individual anecdotes, not a reliable rate; the outcome can vary, and no run count guarantees the mount. Repeated eligible runs are the practical approach, but each run may end without a drop.
