Queen Vespa’s spirit in Hollow Knight is in the northeast part of the Hive, in the same arena where you fight Hive Knight. Defeat Hive Knight and collect the Hiveblood Charm, and her spirit appears beside his corpse. Her enormous body is visible in the background of the room.
How to reach the Hive
The Hive sits below Kingdom’s Edge, so the route runs through Deepnest and then up to Kingdom’s Edge before you descend.
- Obtain the Tram Pass in Deepnest.
- Take the tram to Kingdom’s Edge.
- From Kingdom’s Edge, enter the Hive below it.
- Continue toward the eastern side of the Hive and its furthest room.
The Hive does not have a separate map. Once you obtain Cornifer’s Kingdom’s Edge map, that map also covers the Hive, so use it to orient yourself as you head east.
Triggering Vespa’s spirit
Vespa’s body is guarded by Hive Knight in the eastern chamber of the Hive. The encounter sequence is what unlocks her appearance:

- Enter the Hive Knight arena in the eastern part of the Hive.
- Defeat Hive Knight.
- Take the Hiveblood Charm from the aftermath of the fight.
- Look toward the corpse. Vespa’s spirit appears beside it, and her huge body can be seen in the background of the room.
If you have not yet reached the Hive Knight arena, the spirit will not appear anywhere else in the Hive. Plan the trip around the boss, not around the spirit itself.
Her recorded dialogue
Vespa’s exhausted line, as listed on the Hollow Knight Wiki’s Queen Vespa page, reads: “To rail against nature is folly. All things must accept an end.” The wiki attributes the line to Hive Queen Vespa and lists it among her in-game dialogue.

Hollow Knight and Silksong are different appearances
Vespa also appears in Hollow Knight: Silksong, but that is not the same encounter. Players searching for her in the original game should not expect the Silksong scene to behave like the Hive arena.
