Check Mages Guild halls, Great Chapels, the Imperial City’s Mystic Emporium and Edgar’s Discount Spells, and specialty locations such as Dunbarrow Cove and the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary. Because guides disagree about some NPC locations and school inventories, treat the lists below as a shopping map—not a verified catalog of every spell.
Where to start shopping for spells
Choose a seller based on the magic school you need, then inspect that NPC’s spell inventory in-game. A guide’s “all schools” label indicates broad reported coverage; it does not establish that the merchant sells every spell, rank, or version. Gamer Guides’ city-and-chapel list was released May 1, 2025 and last updated May 13, 2025 (Gamer Guides vendor guide); The Escapist’s expanded roster was last updated April 29, 2025 (The Escapist vendor guide).

Additional vendors in The Escapist’s roster
The Escapist lists more chapel, faction, and downloadable-content locations. These entries can point you toward less common schools, but the guide’s expanded list does not independently settle all conflicts with Gamer Guides.

How to handle conflicting vendor information
The guides do not agree on every NPC or specialty, so verify a seller’s inventory in your own game before making a long trip based on a single entry.
- Delphine Jend / Delphin Jend: Gamer Guides places Delphine Jend in the Anvil Mages Guild and reports all schools. The Escapist lists Delphin Jend in the Bravil Mages Guild with broad inventory. The available lists do not establish whether this is a spelling variation, a location error, or a source-specific discrepancy.
- Thaurron / Thaurro: The sources differ in the name spelling and reported school coverage.
- Sulinus / Sulinus Vassinus: The sources differ in the name and inventory description.
- Other coverage differences: Several overlapping vendors are assigned different or broader school lists. Do not treat a school label as a guarantee that a particular spell is stocked.
Buying a spell is different from making one
Bethesda’s official original Oblivion PC manual says players can buy spells from people who sell them. It separately describes Spellmaking and Item Enchanting as Mages Guild crafts, with access to the Arcane University’s altars tied to Mages Guild rank. This is baseline context from the original game manual, not confirmation of every Remastered-specific requirement or interface detail.
Rank #2
- Live another life in another world, create and play any character you can imagine
- An all-new combat and magic system brings first person role-playing to a new level of intensity
- Groundbreaking AI system gives characters full 24/7 schedules
- New lands to explore in the Shivering Isles expansion
- Challenging new foes, hideous insects, Flesh Atronachs, skeletal Shambles, amphibeous Grummites and more
The same manual explains that the Magic Menu separates spells into All, Target, Touch, Self, and Active tabs, and that magicka cost depends on skill in the relevant school. So if a purchased spell is too demanding for your character, the issue may be skill and cost rather than the shop where you bought it; the manual is not a current Remastered patch reference.
