In the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance, horse tack is sold by Zora near Neuhof, the Head Groom at Uzhitz and Johann at Merhojed. If you own the From the Ashes DLC, the Stablemaster at Pribyslavitz is a fourth seller. There is no single “best” piece of horse gear. The right item depends on the stat you need: carrying capacity, speed, courage or defence. A saddle that carries more loot also slows your horse, and extra bridle courage is wasted once the horse reaches its ceiling.
Where to find horse tack
- Zora, near Neuhof. Listed as a horse seller in community horse references, with horse-tack stock associated with this trader.
- Head Groom, Uzhitz. Associated with horse tack on item pages, including the Groom’s bridle.
- Johann, Merhojed. Listed as a horse seller in community horse references.
- Stablemaster, Pribyslavitz. Requires the From the Ashes DLC.
Trader stock is compiled by community wikis rather than the developer, and it can vary by item or game version. Use the in-game trade screen as the final authority.
Checking stock before you travel
- Speak to the vendor and open the trade option in their dialogue.
- Read each item’s stat panel before buying, and compare it with your horse’s current courage, speed and carrying values.
- If an item listed on a wiki is missing, assume the stock has changed rather than that you have missed a quest, and check the trade screen again after major patches or DLC changes.
Which item fits which goal
The table below lists each piece of tack with the stat it affects and the values documented in community references. “Not stated” means the sources consulted do not give a figure.

Bridles and the courage ceiling
Courage is capped at 20 for a horse. Once your horse is at that value, a bridle with more courage adds nothing. Check your horse’s starting courage before paying for a bridle. The wiki marks some vendor details as uncertain, so treat the stock listing as a guide rather than a guarantee.

Saddles and carrying capacity
Saddles trade speed for carrying capacity. If your main problem is hauling loot, the saddle is the item to prioritise, and you should expect a slower horse in return. The Noble’s saddle is described in community summaries as a four-saddlebag version, and as a reward from Zora for winning the Talmberg horse race. That reward detail comes from community references, so check the quest conditions in your own game before planning a route around it.
Horse head armour
Head armour is the defensive option, and it may reduce speed. Community summaries describe it as a hidden find rather than a stock item from the usual horse traders. We have not verified its exact location, so use a current location guide before you travel for it, and do not assume a trader will sell it.

Caparisons and the 2026 account reward
Ordinary covers are sold by horse traders, and their role is cosmetic or protective rather than a combat upgrade. A separate caparison arrived with patch 1.9.7. PC Gamer’s February 13, 2026 report reproduces the patch-note wording: Deep Silver account integration grants a caparison, which is added to the stash once the prologue is complete. This is an account-linked reward, not an item that every trader sells. The report is the place to check the exact phrasing.

- Hauling loot: prioritise a saddle for carrying capacity, and accept the speed penalty.
- Faster travel: prioritise horseshoes, and prefer saddles that do not cut speed heavily.
- A skittish horse: prioritise bridle courage, but stop once the horse reaches the 20 ceiling.
- Combat protection: look at head armour for defensive stats, and do not treat cloth covers as combat armour.
These recommendations follow from the listed mechanics and have not been tested in-game for this guide.

Version, DLC and source limits
- This guide covers the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance only. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II uses different item systems, and its horse gear does not follow the rules described here.
