1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYes—you can buy the original Diablo through both GOG and Blizzard’s Battle.net Shop. GOG’s listing is Diablo + Hellfire and offers two versions, including one that connects to Battle.net. Blizzard also sells Diablo through the Battle.net Shop. The key differences are how the game is installed and which multiplayer modes each version supports.
Is the original Diablo on Battle.net?
Yes. Blizzard announced on January 29, 2024 that the original Diablo was available in the Battle.net Shop. GOG also continues to list Diablo + Hellfire. So the old claim that the game is not on Battle.net is no longer accurate as a current description.

That claim came from Blizzard’s March 7, 2019 announcement of the game’s first digital, DRM-free release on GOG. At the time, Blizzard’s FAQ said it would not be available for sale or download through the Battle.net App. Blizzard later added it to the Battle.net Shop; the 2019 statement describes the situation then, not now. See Blizzard’s 2019 announcement and FAQ and its 2024 Battle.net Shop announcement.
How the GOG and Battle.net editions differ
GOG’s listing provides a specific choice between the unchanged original build and a GOG-enhanced version. Blizzard’s Battle.net Shop release is a separate way to purchase the game; the available information does not establish that its build has the same mode choices as GOG’s, so do not assume the GOG-specific options apply to it.

Which version should you choose?
Choose GOG if you want offline installation or a choice of modes
GOG is the clearer option if you want an offline installer, do not want to use the Galaxy client, or specifically want to choose between the Battle.net-compatible original mode and GOG’s enhanced mode. The trade-off is that the enhanced mode cannot connect to Battle.net; its supported multiplayer options are LAN and peer-to-peer.

Choose Battle.net if you prefer buying through Blizzard’s store
The Battle.net Shop offers a direct Blizzard storefront listing, but it requires a Battle.net account on the reviewed regional page. Check your local listing for its contents, supported language and requirements before buying; the details on one regional page should not be treated as universal.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is Hellfire?
GOG includes Hellfire as a free add-on with its Diablo + Hellfire listing. Synergistic Software developed the expansion; it was not an official Blizzard product. Blizzard’s 2024 announcement describes the game as including Hellfire, and the reviewed European Spanish Battle.net listing also says it is included.

What to check before buying
- Store and region: Confirm the product page in your country. A regional shop page does not establish the price, language options or availability elsewhere.
- Multiplayer mode: On GOG, select the version according to whether you need Battle.net connectivity or prefer the enhanced build’s LAN and peer-to-peer options.
- Account and installation: GOG says Galaxy is optional and an offline installer is available. The reviewed Battle.net page requires an account; it does not confirm offline installation.
- Compatibility: GOG lists Windows 10 and 11 support. This is the store’s compatibility statement, not an independent test.
- Support: GOG directs purchase, download, installation, patching and troubleshooting questions to GOG. For Battle.net sign-in issues, Blizzard is the relevant support channel.
