Dammon’s location changes as you progress through Baldur’s Gate 3: look for him in The Hollow in the Emerald Grove during Act 1, at Last Light Inn during Act 2, and at the Forge of the Nine in the Lower City during Act 3. His survival matters if you want to continue Karlach’s engine quest.
Dammon’s location by act
| Act | Where to find him | Map coordinates | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Act 1 | The Hollow, Emerald Grove | X: 180, Y: 561 | Look in The Hollow rather than searching the wider wilderness. |
| Act 2 | Last Light Inn | X: -35, Y: 169 | He must have survived the events in the Grove and the journey through the Shadow-Cursed Lands. |
| Act 3 | Forge of the Nine, Lower City | X: -2, Y: -8 | He can provide a final engine tune-up here. |
These are in-game map coordinates, not real-world directions. Dammon also appears at High Hall during Gather Your Allies, but he cannot be traded with there; go to the act-specific location above for his regular services.
What Dammon can do for Karlach
Dammon is the infernal mechanic tied to Karlach’s personal quest. He is the only infernal mechanic identified in the game reference, and the quest cannot progress through him if he dies.
Karlach’s engine can receive two upgrades, each requiring Infernal Iron. After the first upgrade, the engine is improved but not fully stabilized. The second repair lets Karlach touch other people safely. If you meet Dammon in Act 1, he needs more time to work out a solution, so return in Act 2. If you first reach him in Act 2 or Act 3, both upgrades can be completed from that later location after a Long Rest, provided you have the required material.

Where to find Infernal Iron
- Act 1: A chest in a Blighted Village house basement; Dror Ragzlin’s treasure crates in the Shattered Sanctum; a trapped chest in the Zhentarim Basement; and Stonemason Kith in Grymforge.
- Act 2: The Reithwin Mason’s Guild and a chest near Balthazar in the Gauntlet of Shar.
- Act 3: Flymm Cargo’s Basement and Steel Watchers in the Lower City. The item reference also lists the Iron Throne and a purchase from Huido at the docks, subject to dialogue conditions.
Dammon’s crafting services and the Act 2 cutoff
Dammon can craft the Flawed Helldusk Armour, Helmet, and Gloves using Infernal Iron or Infernal Alloy. His Act 2 crafting services have a progression cutoff: after you enter the Shadowfell, the reference says that only his trading menu remains available there if he survives. If crafting those items is your goal, handle it before entering the Shadowfell.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If Dammon is missing
- Check your act and location. Use the act-by-act table above, including the listed coordinates.
- In Act 2, consider his survival. His availability depends on surviving the Grove events and the journey to Last Light Inn; the inn’s attack can also put him at risk.
- For Karlach’s engine, check your materials and timing. If you missed him earlier, his later location may still let you complete both upgrades after a Long Rest, assuming you have Infernal Iron.
- For Act 2 crafting, check whether you entered the Shadowfell. That story transition can close off Dammon’s crafting services.
Dammon shares the fate of the tiefling refugees in the Save the Refugees quest. He may be temporarily unavailable between that quest’s conclusion and your arrival at Last Light Inn. He also becomes unavailable when you enter the Mind Flayer Colony near the end of Act 2, then reappears in the Lower City during Act 3. These story-state transitions can explain why a location that should contain him seems empty.
