Dinraal flies across northeast Hyrule, Farosh through the southwest, Naydra around Mount Lanayru and East Necluda, and the Light Dragon circles Hyrule’s outer sky. The first three travel through the Depths as well as the surface; the Light Dragon stays in the sky. Use the routes and launch points below to find them, then prepare for their elemental hazards before collecting parts.

Dragon locations at a glance

Dragon Surface route and landmarks Depths? Hazard and useful launch point
Dinraal Northeast Hyrule: Eldin and Akkala, including the area near Typhlo Ruins and Drenan Highlands Yes; emerges around Akkala and returns underground at Drenan Highlands Fire; scan from an Eldin- or Akkala-area Skyview Tower
Farosh Southwest Hyrule: Gerudo Desert, Great Plateau, and Lake Hylia Yes; its route heads toward a chasm near Popla Foothills Electricity; scan from Gerudo Canyon or Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower
Naydra East Necluda and Mount Lanayru, looping around the Hateno area and Kakariko Yes; goes underground near East Hill above Kakariko Cold; scan from Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower and wear warm gear
Light Dragon Broad circuit around Hyrule’s outer areas No Use map-fringe observation points or a sky island to launch and glide; it flies high

These are practical regional landmarks, not exact coordinates or guaranteed clock-time positions. Nintendo’s official advice recognizes that every player’s exploration experience will be different; your progress, altitude, and position can affect when a dragon is easy to spot. Route descriptions for the elemental dragons are also summarized in Nintendo Life’s dragon guide and Pro Game Guides’ route guide.

How to search for a dragon

  1. Pick the route region. Start with the dragon’s broad region in the table rather than waiting at a random point or relying on a particular in-game time.
  2. Choose an elevated scan point. Travel to a nearby Skyview Tower or sky island. A launch from high ground gives you a wider view and a better chance to glide toward a dragon.
  3. Scan the horizon and mark landmarks. Use the map to place pins on useful route locations, such as a chasm or regional landmark. Nintendo’s beginning-your-journey guide covers the map, pins, and paraglider.
  4. Reposition if the dragon is not visible. Follow the route’s regional landmarks and check again from another elevated point. A route is more useful as a search area than as a promise that the dragon will be at one exact spot.
  5. Prepare before approaching. Bring protection for the dragon’s elemental hazard. If the environment or distance makes the approach difficult, use meals for stamina or environmental protection, as Nintendo recommends in its general gameplay tips.

Dinraal: northeast Hyrule

Search the Eldin Mountains and the wider Eldin–Akkala area. A useful landmark-based route description has Dinraal emerge near Akkala, north of Tarrey Town, pass through Eldin near Typhlo Ruins, and return to the Depths at Drenan Highlands. Use an Eldin- or Akkala-area Skyview Tower to scan from above, and equip fire-resistant protection before getting close.

Farosh: southwest Hyrule

Look across the southwest, including Gerudo Desert, the Great Plateau, and Lake Hylia. One route description places Farosh’s journey from the desert across the Plateau and Lake Hylia toward a chasm near Popla Foothills. Gerudo Canyon or Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower can serve as a scan point. Farosh’s electrical hazard makes the Rubber Armor Set useful; removing conductive equipment is another option described by Nintendo Life.

Naydra: Mount Lanayru and East Necluda

Search around Mount Lanayru and East Necluda. Naydra is described as emerging near Mount Lanayru, looping around Hateno, then heading underground near East Hill above Kakariko. The Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower is a convenient place to look from. Bring warm gear for the cold in the region.

Light Dragon: a high route around Hyrule

Unlike the other three, the Light Dragon does not enter the Depths. It circles around Hyrule’s outer areas and flies high, so use map-fringe locations to scan and sky islands as starting points for a glide. Pro Game Guides reports that completing the Great Deku Tree quest lowers the dragon’s altitude; treat that as a guide-reported observation rather than a universal guarantee about its position or accessibility.

Collecting dragon parts

Dragon materials can contribute to armor upgrades, weapon effects, or longer meal effects. Nintendo Life describes collecting scales by striking a dragon’s body with an arrow or close-range weapon, and finding shards at the bases of the spikes along its back. Approach carefully and choose the material you need before making a strike. A dependable material refresh interval is not established by the cited route guides, so do not plan a collection loop around a fixed wait time.
