On Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, press the Xbox button, then go to Profile & system → Settings → System → Console info. For a recovery form asking for an “Xbox Live device ID,” use the value labeled Xbox network device ID. It is not the console’s serial number or its Console ID.
Find the device ID on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S
- Turn on the console and sign in if needed.
- Press the Xbox button on your controller.
- Open Profile & system, then select Settings.
- Choose System → Console info.
- Find Xbox network device ID and copy the complete value exactly as shown.
Dashboard wording can vary slightly by system version. Recovery instructions may call this value “Xbox Live device ID” or simply “Device ID”; Microsoft-hosted guidance points users to the console’s Console info screen and distinguishes the requested device ID from the serial number. Another Microsoft-hosted answer lists Xbox network device ID separately from Console ID and Global device ID.
Which number should you enter?

Do not substitute the OS version, Shell version, gamertag, Xbox profile ID, or account email. If a form’s wording is unclear, check with official Microsoft or Xbox support rather than guessing. The identifiers are not interchangeable, and you should not rely on a presumed digit count: copy the entire value displayed.
Xbox 360: find the Console ID
Xbox 360 uses a different menu and terminology. Open Settings → System → Console Settings → System Info. The screen shows the Console ID beneath the serial number. That is the Xbox 360 identifier shown there; it is not the Xbox network device ID displayed on Xbox One and Series consoles. If a form specifically asks for an Xbox Live device ID for an Xbox 360, do not assume the Console ID is an equivalent—confirm what the form accepts with official support. Can you find it in the Xbox app on Windows?
Some versions of the Windows Xbox app may show the value. Open the app, go to Settings → About, and look under Device for Xbox network device ID. This route is version- and account-state-dependent, so it may not be available in every installation. A Microsoft-hosted answer reports this path; if you cannot see the field, use the console’s Console info screen when possible.
What if you no longer have the console?
- Sold, lost, or replaced: The ID belongs to the console, and it may not be available from your ordinary Microsoft account profile online. Use the specific console associated with the recovery request if you still have access to it.
- Console will not boot: You can try the Windows Xbox app if it still exposes the device information. Otherwise contact official Microsoft/Xbox support and provide other accurate ownership and account-history details requested by the recovery process.
- You only have the serial number: Do not enter it as the Xbox network device ID. They are separate fields.
- You own multiple consoles: Use the ID from the console associated with the account or request, not whichever console is most convenient.
- You are locked out: Use Microsoft’s official account recovery process. Finding this identifier can provide information for verification, but does not guarantee recovery; do not guess if you cannot retrieve it.
Keep the identifier private
Copy or photograph the Console info screen for your own records, and check every character before submitting it. Provide the ID only through an authenticated Microsoft or Xbox recovery/support page. Do not post the full value in a public forum or send it in response to an unsolicited email or message claiming to be support; redact it from screenshots you share publicly.
