Woven with Malice may not appear in your tracked quest log after the first conversation: its opening is designed to unfold across several in-game days, with an interaction at the bell reportedly triggering the quest. If the scholar is missing entirely, that is a separate issue. Players have reported several things to try, but no official diagnosis or guaranteed fix was found in the sources checked on October 4, 2026.
How to start Woven with Malice
The quest is listed as a Worldly Affairs side quest. The opening route described by GamesRecon and AllThings. How is intentionally delayed: speak to the scholar north of Buddha Fort in Qinghe, then advance time and return. The final visit to the bell is the reported trigger for the tracked quest; dialogue choices during the opening are said not to change the outcome.
- Travel north of Buddha Fort and look for the scholar near a large tree and a bronze, bell-like structure.
- Speak with him, advance one full in-game day, and return to the same spot.
- Repeat the wait-and-return sequence. On the third visit, check the bell: the scholar is reportedly inside it.
- Interact at the bell to start the tracked quest.
If the quest is absent from your log after the first conversation, complete the return visits before concluding that it has failed to start. Game8’s search-result text also places the scholar by a large bell north of Buddha Fort, but its page was unavailable for review; that corroborates only the location, not the full route.
Make the Celestial Silk Garment
After the quest starts, go to Little Needle at the nearby Embroidery Ladies’ house. Gather the requested materials, deliver them, and advance an in-game day before collecting the finished garment.

- Advance one in-game day, return, and collect the Celestial Silk Garment.
- Bring the garment back to the scholar.
Follow the clues and open the trap
The next section alternates between conversations and investigation. Let the argument play out rather than interrupting it; then follow the handkerchief clues and complete the monk’s sparring exchanges to get the information needed to proceed.
- Eavesdrop on the argument without interrupting.
- Check the scholar and take the handkerchief, then speak with Little Needle.
- Find Monk Tranquillis south of Buddha Fort and complete his scripted sparring exchanges.
- Inspect the leaves northwest of the monk’s area to find the second handkerchief.
- At the trap location, burn the vines with fire arrows or a fire-based skill.
Investigate the wagon and enter the ruins
Follow the mysterious woman and the subsequent lead to North Bamboo Grove. The remaining gates require specific abilities; use each when the game prompts you.

If the scholar does not spawn
Some players report that the scholar is absent near Buddha Fort. The available guides do not establish a universal prerequisite or confirmed cause. GamesRecon lists the following as community-reported attempts, while AllThings. How also notes reports of failed attempts despite story progress, exploration, nearby quest completion, and changing the time. Treat these as troubleshooting ideas, not verified requirements or guaranteed fixes.
- Clear Buddha Fort.
- Complete the nearby Moth Poet side quest.
- Relog or change channels.
- Try visiting during Zi or Chou hour.
If none of these changes the spawn, the cited guides provide no dependable in-game recovery path. Check official support or patch notes for current guidance, and try again after a game update. An official-domain search checked on October 4, 2026 did not surface a statement confirming the cause, prerequisites, or fix; that search result does not establish that no official information exists elsewhere.
