That points to a clear first set of picks: Paladin on Strength and Courage, Mage on Intelligence and Willpower, Ranger on Agility with Courage and Intelligence supporting its spells, and Cleric on Willpower and Intelligence. These are evidence-based starting priorities, not verified endgame builds. No available source tests which spread performs best in each role, so adjust the picks to your chosen abilities and whether you play solo PvE, group dungeons, or arena PvP.
The five attributes and four classes
Dreadmyst has four playable classes, Paladin, Mage, Ranger, and Cleric, and five core attributes: Strength, Agility, Willpower, Intelligence, and Courage. The official Dreadmyst site presents attribute points as part of character customization. The DreadmystDB game-data reference, which is undated, reports that each class starts with its own attribute spread and its own spell list, and that starting attributes do not change as the character levels.
Starting spreads: the first clue
The starting values below are the ones listed by DreadmystDB. They show where each class begins, which is the most direct signal of what the class was designed around.
| Class | Strength | Agility | Willpower | Intelligence | Courage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paladin | 15 | 10 | 5 | 5 | 15 |
| Mage | 5 | 5 | 15 | 20 | 10 |
| Ranger | 10 | 15 | 10 | 10 | 10 |
| Cleric | 10 | 5 | 20 | 15 | 5 |
Read the table as a lean, not a ranking. Each class’s two highest starting values are the natural first candidates, and they are the basis for the picks in the sections below.

Spell formulas: what your abilities actually use
Class spells scale with attributes through their formulas. DreadmystDB counts how many class spell formulas mention each attribute, and the counts show which attributes the spell lists are built around.
| Class | Strength | Agility | Willpower | Intelligence | Courage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paladin | 3 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 4 |
| Mage | not stated | not stated | 7 | 7 | 4 |
| Ranger | not stated | 0 | not stated | 1 | 1 |
| Cleric | not stated | 0 | 8 | 7 | 2 |
These are counts of formula references in the class spell lists, not measured damage per point. A count of zero means no class spell formula references that attribute in this reference; it does not prove the attribute has no value for the class, since derived effects are outside the data. Where the reference gives no count for an attribute, the cell reads “not stated.”

Recommended starting picks by class
Paladin: Strength and Courage
Paladin starts with 15 Strength and 15 Courage, and Courage is the most-referenced attribute in its spell formulas, with four references. Strength appears in three formulas. Willpower and Intelligence each appear in fewer formulas and start at 5, so they are the weakest candidates for early points. A Paladin focused on its main spells should put early points into Courage and Strength first, then decide whether the remaining spell formulas justify Intelligence or Willpower.
Mage: Intelligence and Willpower
Mage has the clearest lean of the four classes. It starts with 20 Intelligence and 15 Willpower, and both are tied for the most formula references, with seven each. Courage appears in four formulas, and Mage starts with 10 Courage, so it is a reasonable third candidate. Strength and Agility start at 5 each, and the reference lists no Strength or Agility formula references for Mage, so they are unlikely to be early priorities.

Ranger: Agility first, with Courage and Intelligence in spells
Ranger is the one class where the starting lean and the spell formulas point in different directions. Agility is its highest starting value at 15, but the reference records no class spell formula that mentions Agility. Courage and Intelligence each appear in just one formula. Because the starting spread is the only documented signal for Agility, it is a sensible starting emphasis, but it is not confirmed by the spell data. Ranger players who want their spells to scale from points should consider Courage and Intelligence, which the formulas actually reference, and treat Agility as a baseline choice until more evidence is available.
Cleric: Willpower and Intelligence
Cleric starts with 20 Willpower and 15 Intelligence, and its spell formulas agree: Willpower appears in eight formulas and Intelligence in seven. Courage appears in two formulas but starts at only 5. Cleric is the most spell-formula-consistent class, so Willpower and Intelligence are the strongest starting picks, with Courage as a lower-priority supplement.

Matching picks to role and content
Attribute priorities depend on what you do in the game. The official site describes three content types: solo dungeons, group dungeons, and PvE and arena PvP. It also states that a group dungeon party needs one tank, one healer, and two DPS. Keep the following in mind when applying the picks above:
- Solo dungeons: you cover every role yourself, so the class lean and your main spells matter most.
- Group dungeons: a tank, healer, or DPS role may shift priorities away from the starting lean toward the attributes your role’s spells use.
- Arena PvP: sources do not document arena-specific attribute results, so treat the starting picks as a general baseline here.
No source provides a tested optimum for any class, role, and content combination. Use the picks as a starting point and adjust after you have seen how your build plays.

What the data does not establish
Several effects are outside what the reference documents, so avoid building decisions on them. DreadmystDB states that it lacks data for some derived effects, including critical chance and regeneration. It also does not give exact per-point gains for any attribute.
Attribute points are bought with experience through the character panel, along with spell ranks. An attribute point costs more as more points are already invested in that attribute. The reference confirms the rising cost but does not publish the exact cost curve, so exact respec or point-budget calculations cannot be made from it.
A practical allocation method
- Start from your class’s two highest starting attributes in the spread table above.
- List the class spells you actually use and check which attributes their formulas reference.
- Prioritize attributes that appear in your main spells. For Ranger, Agility is the starting emphasis, but Courage and Intelligence are the attributes the spell formulas reference.
- Match the allocation to your role in group dungeons, or to solo or arena play.
- Spend points in small steps and judge the result in play, since the cost of each point rises as you invest more in the same attribute.
Following these steps gives a defensible first build for each class. It will not guarantee the strongest endgame build, because the documented data stops at starting spreads and formula references.
