No documented PS5 system setting directly turns Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR) on or adjusts its reconstruction quality. QSSR is a graphics option in supported games. Settings under Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output control the signal sent to your display and how it is presented, but Sony does not describe them as QSSR controls.
Where QSSR is controlled
Look for QSSR in a game that supports it; there is no documented global QSSR switch in PS5 display settings. Sony’s October 1, 2026 announcement named Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei as the first titles patched to offer QSSR. Sony said it would make the technology broadly available to PlayStation developers, but did not confirm a wider game list or adoption dates. Sony’s QSSR announcement.
QSSR can improve image detail and stability, but Sony published no quantitative image-quality or performance figures in that announcement. Check the supported game’s own graphics options before attributing a change in image quality to QSSR.
What PS5 display settings change
Open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output. These options affect output resolution, colour and HDR presentation, signal stability, refresh rate, or latency. Sony’s descriptions do not identify any of them as controls for QSSR’s internal reconstruction. PlayStation’s PS5 video output guide.

Resolution
Resolution sets the output size, subject to the display’s supported modes. Automatic is a sensible starting point: the PS5 detects the connected TV’s capabilities and selects the highest supported resolution. Choosing a higher output resolution is not documented as improving QSSR’s reconstruction itself. If you use a 1440p display, the PS5 can test SDR and HDR output at 60 Hz and 120 Hz, as well as VRR compatibility.
HDR, Adjust HDR, and colour
HDR selects how the console outputs HDR. With Always On, the PS5 converts unsupported games and apps to HDR output; with On When Supported, unsupported content remains SDR. Choose based on how you want SDR content handled, not as a QSSR quality setting. Adjust HDR lets you fine-tune brightness for optimized HDR rendering on your display.

Deep Colour Output enables smooth image rendering, according to Sony, but is not documented as a QSSR control. Leave RGB Range alone unless your HDMI device is not reporting RGB range information correctly; changing it is not a general-purpose QSSR tweak.
Video Transfer Rate
This setting can help troubleshoot flicker, but lowering it limits output modes. Sony recommends trying -1 or -2 if the screen flickers. At -1, 4K 120 Hz and some 4K 50/60 Hz RGB/YUV444 DeepColor modes are limited. At -2, 4K 120 Hz and 4K 50/60 Hz RGB/YUV444 are limited. On CFI-7000 models, some 8K 60 Hz output is also limited. Use this as a signal troubleshooting option, not as an upscaling adjustment.

VRR, 120 Hz, and ALLM
VRR lets refresh rate adjust in real time on compatible TVs and games; results vary by TV. 120 Hz Output enables 120 Hz output when the TV and game support it. ALLM allows a compatible TV to switch to low-latency mode during gameplay. These settings concern refresh behaviour or latency, not QSSR reconstruction. When VRR output is active, ALLM may be active even if its own setting is Off; turn VRR off as well to fully disable ALLM.
Do not confuse QSSR with Enhance PSSR Image Quality
PlayStation documents Enhance PSSR Image Quality as a separate feature for certain PSSR-compatible games. It is on by default and available only on consoles in the CFI-7000 model group. That is a PS5 Pro PSSR feature, not a QSSR toggle for standard PS5 games.

If 4K 120 Hz flickers or falls back to 1080p
Treat a missing or unstable high-resolution signal as a display-connection or output-mode issue, not evidence that QSSR is misconfigured. PlayStation recommends checking the display’s support and firmware, using the supplied PS5 HDMI cable or an Ultra High-Speed cable rated for 4K 120 Hz, connecting directly to the appropriate HDMI 2.1 input, and checking Resolution and Video Transfer Rate. Try a lower transfer rate only if needed to address flicker, keeping its output-mode limits in mind. The supplied cable may be sufficient; a replacement is not automatically necessary.
