Which edition should you buy?
The right choice depends mainly on whether you already own the game and which platform you use. For new players, the publisher’s current package is Complete Edition. For existing owners, first check the account and storefront where you own the base game or expansions; the publisher describes free upgrades and expansion entitlements for qualifying platforms.

The announcement also names Battle.net and Nintendo Switch 2 as pre-purchase platforms. The publisher’s FAQ describes the Switch 2 release timing as prospective, so a listing or pre-purchase mention alone does not establish that it is already playable there. Verify current availability on the official FAQ.
What do “Complete Edition,” “Remastered,” and “Next-Gen Update” mean?
Complete Edition
Complete Edition is the package to look for as a new buyer. The publisher says the standalone base-game listing has been replaced by Complete Edition on affected digital storefronts, with Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine merged into it. That means the older idea of buying the base game first and then separately adding the expansions does not apply to those storefronts. PS4 and Xbox One retain the prior storefront arrangement, apart from the expansions becoming free, according to the FAQ.

Remastered
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is the current release, launched September 29, 2026. CD PROJEKT RED’s game page describes refreshed visuals and performance, improved combat, a reworked skill system, cross-platform mod support, transmogrification, meditation, and an expanded photo mode. Those are the publisher’s feature descriptions, not independent performance comparisons. See the launch announcement and FAQ.
Next-Gen Update
“Next-Gen Update” usually refers to the free version 4.0 update released in December 2022, not the name of the current 2026 release. The 2022 update added technical, graphics, and gameplay changes; the Complete Edition then described a bundle containing the base game, expansions, and that update. The older update’s platform-specific feature notes are historical, not a tested comparison of the Remastered build. CD PROJEKT RED’s 2022 change list records what version 4.0 included.

What is included, and what happens to existing purchases?
The publisher says base-game owners on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S receive the Remastered upgrade and both original expansions for free. Its announcement states: “All current owners of the base game will gain access to the two original expansions – Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine – for free!” Check your platform account and its instructions rather than repurchasing based only on a storefront product name. The qualifying-platform details come from CD PROJEKT RED’s announcement.
If you already own an expansion, the publisher says it remains in your library while its content is patched into the base game. The expansions can still be started separately from the main menu. According to the FAQ, saves remain compatible, cross-progression continues, and expansion achievements and trophies are unaffected.

How the older version 4.0 update differed by platform
These details describe the 2022 version 4.0 update only. The publisher cautioned that the update varied by platform, so they should not be treated as current Remastered performance specifications.
- PC: Compatible hardware received ray-traced global illumination and ambient occlusion, with additional ray-traced reflections and shadows. PC-specific features included ULTRA+ graphics settings and DLSS 3 support on compatible hardware.
- PS5 and Xbox Series X: The 2022 notes described Ray Tracing Mode targeting 30 FPS and Performance Mode targeting 60 FPS, both with dynamic resolution scaling.
- Xbox Series S: The 2022 notes said it had no ray-tracing features; Quality Mode targeted 30 FPS and Performance Mode targeted 60 FPS.
These are publisher-stated targets and features for version 4.0, not independently measured results or confirmed Remastered settings. Check the current official change notes and Remastered patch information for the version and platform you play.

How long is the game and its DLC?
In a 2022 announcement, CD PROJEKT RED estimated over 100 hours for the base game and another 50 hours for the two expansions combined. These are the publisher’s promotional playtime estimates; it did not provide a measurement method, so they should not be read as independently measured averages.
