The trade is 1 Emerald for 4 Glass. To get it, assign an unemployed adult villager to a Lectern, then level the librarian up until it reaches Journeyman.
The villager that sells Glass
The correct villager is a librarian, not a cartographer. Once a librarian reaches Journeyman level, it can offer:
- 1 Emerald → 4 Glass
- Up to 12 trades by default
- 10 villager experience per completed trade
This relevant trade is the same in the standard current trade tables for both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition. See the librarian trade table for the listed offer.
How to unlock the Glass trade
- Find an unemployed adult villager.
- Place an unclaimed Lectern near it. The Lectern is the librarian’s job-site block.
- Open the villager’s trading screen after it becomes a librarian.
- Complete its available trades to gain experience and raise it to Journeyman.
- Check the Journeyman offers for 1 Emerald → 4 Glass.
A nitwit cannot become a librarian or trade. Nitwits are the green-robed villagers, so use a normal unemployed adult villager instead.

Lock the trade before changing the villager
Do not trade with a librarian until you are satisfied with its initial offers if you are still trying to change them. Before the first completed trade, removing and replacing its Lectern can reset or change the librarian’s offers. After you complete a trade, the villager’s profession and offers become permanent.
What to do when the Glass trade is unavailable
If the Glass offer shows a red “X”, it is temporarily out of stock. The librarian must work at its Lectern to restock the offer. Villagers can reactivate offers up to twice per day, so make sure the librarian can reach and use its job-site block, then wait for it to restock.

Do not confuse Glass with Glass Panes
Cartographers do not sell ordinary Glass. A cartographer’s relevant trade works in the opposite direction:
- 11 Glass Panes → 1 Emerald at Apprentice level
A cartographer uses a Cartography Table, not a Lectern. An unemployed villager who claims an unclaimed Cartography Table becomes a cartographer. This distinction is why guides sometimes incorrectly identify the cartographer as the villager that sells Glass.

Older Bedrock guides may say that cartographers buy 10 Glass Panes for an Emerald. That changed to 11 Glass Panes in Bedrock 1.13.0, so the older figure is outdated. The cartographer still buys panes; the Journeyman librarian is the villager that sells ordinary Glass.
