Many Xbox Series X|S games support Dolby Atmos or Xbox spatial audio, but there is no single official, complete, continuously updated list. Dolby currently names nine games that support both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Technical coverage and a community-maintained testing database document additional titles, but those lists use different evidence standards. The distinction matters: an Xbox set to output Dolby Atmos can send an Atmos-formatted signal even when a game itself was not authored with native Atmos audio.
This guide separates games by the source of the claim, explains what the labels mean, and shows how to enable Atmos and troubleshoot common problems. The game examples and source listings below reflect information available as of August 18, 2026.
Games Dolby lists for both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos
Dolby’s Xbox gaming page names the following Xbox Series X|S games as supporting both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos:

Evidence label: Officially listed by Dolby for both formats. This is a useful, clearly sourced group—not a complete Atmos-only catalogue. A game may support Atmos without Dolby Vision, and Dolby’s combined-format list does not establish that every Atmos game is represented.

A TechRadar list published April 14, 2023 included these additional games among titles supporting Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Treat these as independently documented examples, not as a current, exhaustive verification of every edition or later patch:

For newer examples, Pure Xbox reported on a community-maintained compatibility database with more than 100 listed titles and more than 2,000 Xbox One and Xbox Series games tested. Its examples of newer additions include Metaphor: ReFantazio, Star Wars Outlaws, NHL 25, Off The Grid, and Throne and Liberty.
Evidence label: Community-tested/listed. This database is an enthusiast project, not a Dolby certification list or Xbox guarantee. It spans Xbox One as well as Series X|S, and its criteria may include Microsoft Spatial Sound compatibility rather than a traditional Dolby Atmos mix. Entries can also be affected by game patches and platform changes. Use the Pure Xbox guide to reach its current linked spreadsheet rather than relying on an old copied spreadsheet URL.

Three different things are often described with the same phrase:
- Game-authored spatial audio: The game provides spatial sound information—such as positional or elevation cues—that the platform can render to an Atmos output. Microsoft describes Spatial Sound as supporting surround and elevation cues, including audio objects positioned in three-dimensional space.
- Atmos selected as the Xbox output format: The console can be set to Dolby Atmos for home theater or Dolby Atmos for Headphones. That output setting does not, by itself, prove a particular game has native Atmos audio. The game may instead supply stereo or conventional surround audio.
- Virtualization or upmixing: Headphone processing, an AV receiver, or a soundbar can create a spatial presentation from non-Atmos source audio. That can still be enjoyable, but it is not the same as confirming a native Atmos mix.
Consequently, a receiver displaying “Dolby Atmos” is not conclusive proof that the game itself contains native Atmos content. The Xbox’s selected output and the game’s audio implementation are related, but not identical.

Does the Xbox Store Atmos tag prove native support?
No. Store metadata is a useful clue, not definitive proof. Pure Xbox has reported cases where Store tags do not align with observed compatibility. When a title’s status is unclear, cross-check the developer or publisher’s audio documentation, Dolby’s listings, independent technical coverage, and a current community testing database. A receiver’s display can add context, but it is not a universal certification test either.
For a careful check, note the exact game edition and platform version, then compare the game’s own audio options and any developer documentation with the available listings. A title may behave differently across its Xbox One and Series X|S editions, after updates, or with different output settings. If you test the receiver, treat indicators such as object-based or Dolby MAT input as an enthusiast diagnostic—not a guaranteed consumer-facing method of proving native support.

How to enable Dolby Atmos
Home theater: soundbar or AV receiver
- Connect the Xbox to a compatible Dolby Atmos soundbar or AV receiver by HDMI. Alternatively, connect the Xbox to the TV and return audio to the sound system over eARC if the TV and system support the needed formats.
- Press the Xbox button, then open Profile & system → Settings → General → Volume & audio output.
- Under HDMI audio, choose Dolby Atmos for home theater.
- Install Dolby Access if Xbox prompts you to do so, then confirm the receiver or soundbar is receiving the intended signal.
Xbox Series X|S uses HDMI for this connection; it does not have the optical-audio option found on some older Xbox consoles. HDMI capabilities and pass-through behavior vary by TV, receiver, and soundbar. If your TV’s eARC path does not pass the desired audio reliably, try connecting the Xbox directly to the receiver or soundbar, while checking that the device can pass the video features you use.
Headphones
- Install Dolby Access from the Microsoft Store.
- Connect a compatible headset or ordinary headphones to the controller or a supported console-compatible wireless connection.
- Open Settings → General → Volume & audio output and select Dolby Atmos for Headphones under headset audio.
- Complete the trial or license activation shown in Dolby Access, if prompted.
Atmos for Headphones is software-rendered; you do not need headphones with special “Atmos” speaker drivers. Dolby Access handles setup and offers a trial, but a license may be required after the trial. Dolby’s Xbox page describes the app and headphone setup. The current license price depends on the live Microsoft Store listing and is not stated here.
What equipment do you need?
- Headphones: Any Xbox-compatible headphones can be used with the Dolby Atmos for Headphones output mode. Consider compatibility, comfort, microphone quality, and wireless latency; an Atmos-branded headset is not automatically necessary.
- Soundbar: Choose a model that decodes Dolby Atmos. HDMI input can let the Xbox connect directly; eARC can return audio when the Xbox is connected to the TV. A low-latency or game mode may help, and rear or upward-firing speakers can affect how height effects are reproduced.
- AV receiver and speakers: The receiver must decode Atmos and the speaker layout must be capable of reproducing the channels or height effects you want. A more complex setup can offer flexibility, but HDMI 2.1, eARC, 4K/120Hz, VRR, and pass-through support are model-specific.
Dolby confirms gaming Atmos support on both Series X and Series S; Atmos is not a Series X-only feature. Individual game editions, patches, and performance options may nevertheless differ between consoles.

Troubleshooting Atmos on Xbox
The receiver displays Atmos for every game
That display may describe the incoming output format or the receiver’s processing mode, not the game’s original mix. Compare with a known spatial-audio title and inspect the receiver’s signal information if available, but do not treat the indicator alone as proof of native Atmos.

Height speakers are silent or effects seem flat
- Check whether the game is known to provide spatial audio; not every game has native Atmos.
- Confirm the Xbox output is not set to stereo or an unintended surround format.
- Check the game’s audio options for a headphone, stereo, or surround selection.
- Confirm the receiver or soundbar input and listening mode, speaker layout, and firmware.
- Check whether the TV, HDMI, or eARC connection is limiting the audio signal.
There is audio delay or lip-sync drift
Latency can vary by equipment and connection; community testing discussions have flagged it as a concern. Try these comparisons rather than assuming one route is always best:
- Test Xbox → AVR or soundbar → TV.
- Test Xbox → TV → sound system over eARC.
- Disable unnecessary TV audio processing and check game/low-latency modes on the TV and audio device.
- Update the Xbox, TV, AVR, and soundbar firmware.
- Compare Atmos with uncompressed 5.1 or stereo. If Atmos delay remains distracting, use the mode that keeps gameplay responsive.
Device models differ in HDMI bandwidth, eARC behavior, codec handling, and processing delay, so there is no connection path that fixes every setup.

Recheck the developer’s documentation or a maintained database when a major game update, new console edition, or platform change may affect audio. Lists are snapshots: Dolby’s named titles are straightforward to cite but not exhaustive, the 2023 technical list is historical, and community entries are broader but not official. For this reason, the categories above identify the evidence behind each group instead of treating every entry as equally verified.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Dolby Vision support mean a game also supports Dolby Atmos?
No. Dolby Vision is for HDR video and Dolby Atmos is for audio. A game may support either format, both, or neither; Dolby’s nine-title list above specifically names games supporting both.

Does Atmos work on Xbox Series S?
Yes. Dolby identifies both Xbox Series X and Series S as supporting gaming in Dolby Atmos. A particular game’s edition or patch may still affect its audio features.
Do I need an Atmos headset?
No. Dolby Atmos for Headphones is rendered by the Xbox through Dolby Access, so compatible ordinary headphones can be used. Headset compatibility and connection method still matter.
Is Dolby Atmos free on Xbox?
Home-theater Atmos output does not require the Dolby Atmos for Headphones license. Dolby Access offers a headphone trial, and a license may be required afterward; check the current Microsoft Store listing for current terms and price.
Is Windows Sonic an alternative?
Yes. Microsoft documents Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos, and DTS Headphone:X as Xbox spatial-audio output options. Windows Sonic is built in; Dolby Atmos for Headphones and DTS Headphone:X have their own app and licensing arrangements.

It is a preference, not a guarantee of native support or better sound. Try Atmos, uncompressed surround, or stereo and keep the mode with the best balance of positional clarity, latency, and compatibility in your setup.
