Why did the video become famous?
The clip drew attention as Wii Fit was entering the wider conversation about motion-controlled exercise games. Its suggestive framing and title helped it spread beyond people looking for gameplay footage. Salon described a broader trend of men filming their partners playing Wii Fit; by June 2, 2008, it reported that the best-known clip had passed one million views (Salon).
On June 11, 2008, ANI reported that the video had received “almost two million hits” (ANI). Those are dated snapshots from separate reports, not a reliable current view count, and they should not be treated as a precise measure of how quickly views accumulated.

Was it a Nintendo advertisement?
The marketing theory arose because reports said Bernat and Gutierrez both worked at an advertising agency. But that circumstance is the basis of the suspicion, not proof that Nintendo commissioned the clip. Know Your Meme’s account, citing CNET’s June 18, 2008 coverage, says Nintendo and the couple denied that it was a planned promotion (Know Your Meme). The available account does not establish a verified statement from Nintendo in its own words.
What game and equipment did she use?
Bernat was playing Wii Fit on Nintendo’s Wii, using the game’s hula-hoop activity with the Wii Balance Board setup. Contemporary discussion associated the Balance Board with Wii Fit; a 2008 forum thread offers only secondary context for that equipment detail (NeoGAF). The clip is best understood as a piece of early Wii-era internet culture, not as a product demonstration or buying recommendation.

- The active-play phenomenon started by Wii Sports now spreads to your whole body thanks to a pressure-sensitive Wii balance board, which comes packed with Wii Fit. The board is used for an extensive array of fun and dynamic activities, including aerobics, yoga, muscle stretches and games. Many of these activities focus towards providing a "core" workout, a popular exercise method that emphasizes slower, controlled motions.
What happened after the upload?
The clip prompted copycats and parodies. Know Your Meme’s timeline also records Bernat appearing with Gutierrez on The Tyra Banks Show in 2009 and appearing on Tosh.0 in January 2010 (Know Your Meme). Those later appearances document the video’s afterlife; they do not establish that its original upload was a coordinated campaign.
ANI also quoted Gutierrez, via The Telegraph, recalling Bernat’s reaction when she learned he had posted the clip: “She was furious when she found out. She called me on the phone screaming her head off and then hung up on me,” (ANI).
